Sheldon Silver doing us in !!

Statement From Speaker Silver On Gun Legislation

Gun permits must have expiration dates. With today's action by the Assembly Codes Committee we are one step
closer to requiring every county in New York State to follow the practice currently in place in New York City and
Long Island. For more than a decade the Assembly has advanced comprehensive, common-sense gun safety legislation. I plan to bring this bill to the floor for a final vote in the coming weeks and urge the Senate to join us in adopting this critical piece of legislation.

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Is this the final copy of this Bill they are proposing  ?

BILL NO    A00801A

I have a Un-restricted  Full Carry NY License for the past 14 years .. I also have a Full Carry PA  License  .. My Current County Judge is Pro Gun .. Now if there  was a change  during the 5 year period ..could a New NON - Pro gun  Judge take my Un-restricted status away ? If so i would loose my Pa , License then ..

–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Is This What Politians get paid Big Salaries  for ? To spend so much time and effort in trying to come up with and pass all the proposed Gun Bills that are listed , While the State of New York is going down the tubes Financially..  Simply Amazing !!!!!

Welcome to the world of $40 a year for the privilege of owning a gun.  Plus dragging everything you own down to the pistol license section once every 5 years.

You have to show them your guns every 5 years? I don't remember doing that when my 5 years were up.

If it helps you can blame my former hometown................

"Spurred by a gunman's rampage in Binghamton, two New York lawmakers
want to limit the duration of state handgun licenses and require
renewals every five years."

This should be a wakeup call to all NY gun owners to get down to Albany on the 29th and show your support and let the Senators of NY know we mean business and that their support of these bullshit bills will come with a heavy price come next election. The democrats hang on to the senate by a thread and they will only have the courage to pass all these bills if we gun owners of NY stand by quietly on the sidelines and let it happen. Whether you are a hunter, collector or target shooter their will never be a more important day for all of us than April 29th. This is no time for excuses guys, we can pack that building with so many bodies they won't even be able to fit us all in the chambers. Use a vacation day,use a sick day if you have too but get there if you can. I'll be honest and say I have enjoyed collecting and shooting firearms for a lot of years and like alot of us in the past I just sat back and let others put in the work and effort. This years too important and win or lose it won't be because I didn't make the effort.

Renewable statewide pistol license bills have been introduced in the NY Assembly for years.

Even the weenies at the NYPD licensing division gave up on that ridiculous requirement years ago.

there is still no garuntee of this shit passing the senate...so far i havent heard the only person who counts (malcolm smith) speak on the issue nor have i seen any of the bills move in the senate.  If we show up in force on the 29th we might just get Smith to forget about even thinking about bringing a gun bill to a vote

All the anti-gun bills reported out of the Assembly committee will be passed in a rigged floor vote by the Assembly. What happens after they are reported to the Senate and assigned to a Senate committee is anyone's guess at this point.

That makes no difference. The majority party controls the legislative process and with few exceptions everything is done behind closed doors with no public hearings, no meaningful debate, no input from dealer's, manufacturers, lawful gun owner's or any other interested party. They act on what is politically expedient for them without regard to what is just, lawful or factual.

Well I suppose that I wouldn't oppose this IF:
One didn't have to wait six or more months to secure a licenses in the first place.
They would make the law uniform across the State and include the five shitholes downstate.
Purchase coupons would be made available upon request so that one could buy and pick up their purchase and amend the licenses at the owners convince.
Allow everyone legally able to own a handgun to do so without securing a licenses, except to carry concealed.
Close down the COBIS fiasco.

Once again, anti-gun legislation is being proposed in the name of "crime control" however the real agenda is citizen control.
At some point our Government is going to make it a crime for anyone to own a firearm....I suppose by the time that happens, it'll be time to hit the reset button.....Redress is only a crime of you loose.

On a slight tangent: All these "tea partys" are reported to be ONLY about taxation, what they fail to report is the high level of discontent over firearms laws and prior restraint.

yeah, i know it doesnt really make a difference and that the albany runs by the "3 men in a room" scheme....but i think it gives us a bit of hope that they senate hasnt jumped all over this gun control day thing yet and that most of their bills are still languishing in comittee.....i know that in the future thay may change but i guess im trying to look at the glass half full...plus it doesnt hurt that malcolm smith hasnt made any public gun control statements like shelly

Much like CA is owned by LA and SF.  You can't win.

Actually CA has a lot going for it right now, mainly in that the NRA is great at stopping anti gun bills while the Calguns coalition works on exploiting cracks in the law, suing sheriffs and PD's over CCW issues, finds legal solutions to circumvent the state AWB and "safe handgun" roster, picking new cases to bring against the CA DOJ, recruiting and informing new gun owners, and organizing all the pro 2A groups into a powerful and efficient fighting machine.  And with Calguns Foundation working in tandem with the SAF, we just got a win in the Nordyke case.

What do you guys have going on in the OFFENSIVE AND COUNTER OFFENSIVE front?

What do you suggest? NY has no 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms in the state constitution. The NY Courts have repeatedly stated that the 2nd amendment is a collective and not an individual right and the carrying/possession of a handgun is a privilege and not a right.  The appeals process at both the NYS and Federal levels have been exhausted until the 2nd amendment is incorporated.

You can also add the fact that we do not have "Initiative and Referendum" nor does our AG issue official opinion letters to provide compliance guidance.  By just about every authoritative rating organization, New York State has the most, or close to the most, dysfunctional state government in the country.  This is not something new.  One only needs to look back to 1776 to see that the New York legislature had a hard time getting its act together when it came to endorsing the Declaration of Independence.  We are fighting hundreds of years of dysfunction.  It seems to stem from our state constitution and the structure of our state government.  You can't just waive your hand and make the problem go away.  Then again, a constitution never stopped a determined politician.  New York's constitution forbids gambling and going into debt.  Last time I looked, we have a lottery and all kinds of gambling as well as a $50 billion (or close to) debt.

It would be nice of the State Government to operate within the scope of it's charter, but since it's an old and meaningless document it is ignored, after all who's going to challenge a room full of lawyers hell bent on getting their way.
