I don't usually shoot prone because it irritates a lower back problem I have.

But I sheepishly tried a prone position with my AR today with the mag resting on the floor & it wasn't too bad.

My question is will resting on the mag while shooting cause any problems malfunction wise, I'm sure I read some where that it can, not sure if it was for a .223 rifle not .22 lr.

Cheers.

As long as you gon't exerpt any undue forward or rearward pressure on the gun you should be OK,

But as with everything, you won't know until you try.

Personally I like to get down low and pull the gun into my shoulder as hard as I can

Cheers I'll give it a go when the grass is a bit shorter, I was surprised how natural it felt, better than a sporter with a bipod.

I mostly shoot my Bradley Arms AR15 from the prone position mag resting - have never experienced any malfunctions.

My mags have the Magpul "ranger plates" on - this does make mag-resting a little bit easier IMHO as it changes the angle of the bottom of the mag.

Ranger plates won't work on BD mags, shame cos they look real cool.

I'm dead against resting mags, most stoppages are magazine related, why risk adding to it? Granted though, there are some pretty good mags out there now that still work whilst being rested.

Stopages from resting the mag are a myth as for Manual operated AR's they do not operate quickly enough for it to be a problem even if did exist.

PS. Prone unsupported is how god and the small arms school corps intended!!!

No problem mag resting with the L85A2 and HK mags, but Vectra is right most L85A2 stoppages are magazine related though usually because they have been dropped by some careless Herbert.

I agree damaged mags cause stoppages but mag resting stoppages are an old wives SGT'S tale
