The news up here only spoke about Slidell briefly. I went down there twice last year and was planning to move but the deal fell threw. I was wondering how it is. Did it get wiped out? I was looking at the time near the Waffle house right over the bridge on I-10 from NO. Go over the bridge hook a right so waffle house is on the left up a little further is two campgrounds(KOA+?) A little further houses start. Can anyone tell me what that area is like? Waffle House? campgrounds?
I've flown over the area several times. Most everything there flooded. We have a fiber optic repeater site right off of Hwy 90. Its on 12 ft stilts and had 4 inches of water in it according to the water line on the wall. Its pretty safe to say it was either destroyed or severely damaged.

I grew up in Slidell and still have family around the area. Most of them I've seen or spoken to said that it is slowly coming back up. Some restaurants and business are back open and the areas away from the lake are doing well considering what they went through. The area near the lake, which is were I lived, didn't fair so well. Every house and business was flooded badly. I looked at the sat pictures of Slidell right after the storm and you could easily see the water up to the houses. Slidell dosn't seem to be getting the attention it needs since most of the media is reporting on the damage in New Orleans. I am trying to head there this weekend. I'll let you know how things are progressing. BrickFish |
I didn't make it to Slidell this past weekend. I should be heading that way soon. I did talk to a few more people there. Most stores that are open are closing around 6pm and they say traffic has gotten very bad with all the people from Slidell and Mississippi likely trying to replace lost belongings.
I live in Slidell, it really isn't to bad in my neck of the woods. I would say in my neighborhood about 80% of the houses are fully livable but almost all have damage of some sort. The twinspan headed to NO is up and running again, only one side though. Buisnesses are back up, traffic is a serious pain in the ass. There was a shitton of flooding though on the south side of town, if you could see Lake Ponchatrain, your house got a muckwater bath, pretty much all of eden isles got swamped. Hope this helps. matt
