If I saw that in the wilds of my back yard, I'd call it a garden snake and let it be. No clue what its official name might be, but I've always considered small, skinny, grey snakes to be "garden" snakes.
Diamond heads can be indicative of a poisonous snake, but it doesn't necessarily guarantee it. That one there doesn't appear to be a coral snake, rattlesnake, or copperhead... don't think it could be a baby cottonmouth, either. From what I understand, they have patterns that darken as they age. |

Never understood grown men\women being afraid of snakes and spiders. Hey, even Indiana Jones had a problem with snakes. Funny thing is, spiders don't really bother me. My brother, on the other hand, will pick up a snake without hesitation, but bring him a spider and he'll freak out. Who knows, it's gotta be something primitive deep within the psyche. |

The only thing that bothers me anymore are those red wasps. Its more of an annoyance than anything, but I do enjoy killing them. Snakes are cool, and spiders used to scare me as a kid, but I got over it. Mind over matter, pussies! ![]() I'm with you on the wasps. They are right up there with snakes on my "kill on sight" list. It's a very short list by the way. Even shorter since the boys got Bin Laden! |

That is a brown or ground snake. They don't even bite. They eat slugs, snails, worms, and small insects. They are absolutely harmless. Kids can even play with them without concern for injury. They rarely even crap while being held. I am quite relieved to know that. I came pretty close myself though. |

I usually leave those little fellas alone. The only snakes I don't care for are the venomous ones and I usually try to leave them alone as well. Im with ya there, I even just push the venomus ones out of the way...I have quite a few Coachwhips on my property and they are great at getting rid of mice. Here is a pic of one on the hunt. http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/ww255/Sgt911/activites2008031b.jpg The original OPs pic is a Brown snake. Never heard of a coachwhip, if I saw a snake sticking his head like that I would think it was a cobra. |

Never understood grown men\women being afraid of snakes and spiders. Spiders don't bother me one bit. I've had them crawl all over me and never batted an eye. Snakes though..... The fact that they can slither on the ground, swim, climb a tree and all sorts of other things without appendages just ain't right. Plus I've had some pretty close encounters with venomous snakes in my youth that really left me scared of them. Not to mention that I had a baby water moccasin in my toilet about a year and half ago...... |

Most likely a black mamba. No worries in TX although I've seen some huge rat snakes here up to 8 ft. |
|
When I went out on the patio last night, that is EXACTLY what I thought I saw. It seems much smaller when dead. |

This came out of the toilet at a coworker's extra job..I showed the pic to a TPWD biologist and he thought it might be a python, I thought it was a big rat snake..Those people in the pic are about 5' 2"....This was off of 290 in NW Houston. http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/ww255/Sgt911/photo.jpg I didn't know things crawling out of toilets attracted cute babes. Maybe make her a pair of boots out of it. What if you went into the head in the dark and that thing latched on? I saw on Nat. Geo where some woman in some S. American village went to take a dump in an outhouse and a big python latched onto her ass. The only thing that saved her was her ass was so fat it couldn't rag her through the hole. |

I just killed one of these tonight that had crawled up the wall and killed three chicks out of the nest on my front porch. It is the third one I have killed off the front porch in the past couple of years, but this was the first one that had gotten to the chicks before it was spotted. |
