Guy was bitten in the James river down by Nixa.  Idiot didn't seek treatment and died.  My question is how frequently are Water Moccasins sited in that area?

Lots of water moccasins in the Ozark region. I was on a float trip with a friend who is into snakes and we walked up Leatherwood Creek and he caught a huge one by hand.  Scary as hell to me but he knew what he was doing and released it unharmed.  He was looking for one though, I have spent many hours floating Missouri streams and have only seen a few, they generally are secretive and avoid humans.

What are the chances that the toxicology tests are going to reveal other stuff in his system?  Otherwise, why not go to the hospital?  Why wouldn't the girlfriend just call 911?

I maybe just got bit by a snake.  Oh, well.

Honey, maybe you should see a doctor.  No?  Oh, well.

He might get a Darwin award.

I heard another update on the story today...  ""Supposedly"" he did not want to go to the Hospital as he did not have Health Insurance and ironically, could not afford the new ""Affordable Health Care" that's now offered...

I think they said the Toxicology report is still pending...

I wonder how much time you have when bitten by the species of snakes we have here.

I have seen cotton mouths a time or two at Mingo Swamp. I have seen one as far north as Desloge. I was fishing and heard something hitting the side of my boat. I figured a stick or something was hitting the boat. Nope it was a cotton mouth. Damn thing was aggressive.

Most people around here see any water snake and claim it is a water moccasin.

That's exactly what I thought as well.

I was wading in the Big Sugar and a
damn moccasin decided to give chase.

The damn things are FAST.

A shotgun is a must when in their territory.

8000 bites per year with no more than 12 deaths in any year over a period of 30 years.

http://www.aafp.org/afp/2002/0401/p1367.html

List of fatal snakebites.  Most are from rattlesnakes.  The guy from the article is on the list already.

Oh yeah, the comments on the news article was filled with libtards blaming his death on evil conservatives.

Do tell.

I always heard that story about Silver Dollar City. First time was probably in the late 80s.

I heard that story growing up as well, but I wonder if it was an urban legend.  The only things I can find relating to accidents is one due to human error in 1980:

I've heard that story about the Lost River ride a bunch of times. Seem implausible to me. Lots of water movement and disturbances, pumps, etc... And little in the way of food around.

That is the one I remember....Silver Dollar City, they found over a thousand rattle snakes in that mountain when they closed it and went looking.

Maybe it is urban legend...  Was pre-internet, so things were harder to debunk back then.  After Googling, I can't find anything about it.

I'm just spitballin but the guy probably wanted to avoid as many potential "emperial entanglements" as possible is my guess.
