I was kayaking today and the snook were popping everywhere in the river, fresh water.

What artificial jigs should I use?

Thanks

Do it right and use a free lined shrimp. The season is closed isn't it?

Its fresh water.

I am not eating them, I just want to catch them for the sport.

Shrimp are just fine in fresh water. I caught my biggest up in the little Manatee

on free lined shrimp.

Well maybe one day. But live shrimp are 5 miles the wrong way

If they were popping/breaking the surface feeding....try a bomber long A floating lure "red head-silver white body". I remove all the treble hooks on the lure and only replace the tail portion with a circle hook. You'll get more miss strikes but less stress and risk on the fish especially on catch/release.

Try a DOA jig or maybe a DOA shrimp. Get a few different colors.

I have always had great luck with snook using the DOA root beer colored jigs with chartreuse tail, on a red jig head.

4" Berkley Gulp Pogy - mud/silver color on a 1/8 or 1/4oz jig head.
ETA:  and Snook (permit required) are closed until Aug 31st for the entire Gulf coast.

Caught this one Sunday along the west wall of Charlotte Harbor. My first time inshore fishing. Just shy of 32" and right at 8 lbs.

DOA shrimp will work.Well.

If they are popping the surface take a DOA shrimp, take out the weight, cut it in half and put it back in the body, so it falls slower. Typically shrimp in the fresh water side are much smaller so use the smaller 3" size.

You can also remove the hook and the weight and rig it Texas style with a large gap worm hook with integrated weight on the shank. This will allow you to cast closer to and into snags/weeds etc.

If you're really serious about catching them, you'll go in full stealth mode.......

I love free lining live bait. It's so primal.
