| Has anyone snowmobiled across Wisconsin, north to south? What did you use for maps-GPS? |

GPS Snowmobile Maps
The guy that originally made these up was recruiting riders to track their trips and send the gps info into him and the put them all together in a map. I cannot speak to the accuracy of WI maps as having never rode here yet (just moved here from Upstate NY), but the NY maps were spot on. Where are you located? I'm looking for a riding partner(s); I would love to head north. I usually average just over 2000 miles a year - except this year. I've got a truck and two place enclosed trailer and I'm ready to ride. Carl

I'd love to hook up and ride. But as of now I am riding without a WI registration. I tried to register online through the DNR website but having never registered my sleds in WI, the site is wanting my to pay the f-ing sales tax on them again. I already paid NY .08% on two $9,000+ machines once and I'm sure as hell not going to give the state of WI anymore of my money. The nearest DNR office to home/work is in Plymouth; yet their hours of operation are only Tuesday and Thursday 0900-1230 and 1330-1600. How in hell do they expect a workingman to make those hours?! Does anyone know what the citation fine is for not being registered in WI?
EDIT: Disregard. I called the 800 number and spoke to someone who walked me around the sales tax option. Who wants to ride now?! |

The trail network will easily get you from one end of the state to the other, but having enough snow cover to do that is the problem. And enough physical endurance and cash. Carl, we'll have to hook up sometime once I'm back in WI. http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-sf2p/v63/21/35/208201185/n208201185_30553540_5517.jpg Yep, I talked with my cousin at a snox race this weekend and in fact the trails do connect. He also said it depends on the snow amount which hasn't been good in years past. We actually started racing sleds because of the travel required to go trail riding because of the lack of snow. They make or haul in snow for the races so we got allot more riding in. That would be fun to go top to bottom. We are actually talking about doing a stunt in the summer. We want to ride a sled from WI to Lower Michigan across the lake in the summer READ:(no ice, open water) to draw attention to our race team. It would be fairly easy to do but we need to figure out a way to retrieve the sled if something should go wrong. I don't think the DNR would like a sled filled with enough fuel and oil to make it across on the bottom of the lake. Stay tuned!!! |

LOL Me and a friend were just talking about this yesterday coming home from Eagle River. Trails were pounded untill you got away from town btw.
We were thinking plan for two days to make it up and have someone with a trailer meeting us up there to bring our sore asses back. |
