I'll know early next week wether the job I was offered in FL is actually mine for the taking. It's just like my current Job except half the work, none of the bs of my boss, a nice bright office with nice bright people And oh yeah more money too!

Also earLy next week the folks who just told me they'll buy my co-op should send me the deposit an a signed contract.

My wife and I were ready to move if EITHER ever happened and now it looked as if we've meritted both. Not sure what I did to deserve all this.

If all goes well, we could be down within weeks.

And fear not, my wife has been working on exorcising the ny out of me for two years.

I don't honk at stop lights right when they turn green, my tailgating is down 80%, I am much more relaxed than I should be at all times, and I stopped wearig black t-shirts all the time too :-)

Sounds like life is going well.  Good for you, I'll buy you a beer when you get here.  However, there are ground rules for New Yorkers moving to Florida.  First of all don't start each sentence with "I am from NY", it will get you no where.  Also don't tell people how NY was sooo much better, if it were true they would still be there.

Other than that come on down, enjoy life at a slower more relaxed pace and enjoy being outside every now and then.  Its always good to get conservative to move into our swing state, especially when they are coming from a state that is a lost cause.

Welcome to Fl (we hope).

I'm not from New York.
I'm a son of the confederacy born in a yankee body.
I mean that.... I never felt right here for a billion reasons.

New York is not better than anything or anywhere.
I'd rather live in Tora Bora.
I despise the area, the lifestyle, the attitude.

I can't stand being indoors, stuck at a desk.
when it's 105 here, I ride windows open in a t-shirt rather than AC.
definitely an outdoors type, as much as real life (e.g. supporting a family) allows.

I'm a die hard conservative.
My vote for McCain was my first and last hold-my-nose vote.
Never again.

I lived in Virginia for two years (GREAT GREAT bunch of arfkommers there) and it took the movers a week to get my stuff down.... but I brought all my firearms with me.

first thing I did, I mean the absolute first thing I did upon arrival, was take off all the fixed stocks and pop on vltors.

It was at once both anticlimactic (e.g. 90% of us live in free states) and symbolically wholesome (e.g. so THIS is freedom!).

That probably won't happen.

In 2007 Big Blue gave us the greatest postseason performance I have EVER experienced in sports history.
I think they would've been a contender in 2008 had plaxico burress used a holster.

I don't want to make enemies early on, but Ace Ventura was the highlight of Dan Marino's career (sat near him on Jetblue last year, he was awesome!)

ETA: Truth be told, I'm not so much a giants fan anymore..... I just love watching football.  Most sundays me and the wife will have a bbq with friends/family and watch at least one game.

Here's how life will be for you:

April 30th:

Dear diary:

Florida is fantastic! Just got here and love it already.

Now this is a state that knows how to live!! Beautiful sunny days and
warm balmy evenings. What a place! Watched the sunset from a park lying
on a blanket. It was beautiful. I've finally found my home. I love it
here.

May 14th:

Really heating up. Got to 89 today. Not a problem, I

live in an air-conditioned home and drive an air-conditioned car. What a
pleasure to see the sun every day like this. I'm turning into a real
sun worshipper.

June 5th:

Had the backyard landscaped with tropical plants today.  Lots of palms
and rock s. What a breeze to maintain. No more mowing for me.

NO MORE SHOVELING SNOW EITHER!

Another scorcher today but I love it here.

July 1st:

The temperature hasn't been below 90 all week, not even at night. Where
are those ocean breezes we heard about; still seems hot. Getting used to
it will take a while, I guess. I sure miss my LP collection, though.
I'll have to remember not to leave anything made out of plastic in my
car. Got one of those fuzzy steering wheel covers, cheaper than the
burn ointment for my hands. I always wondered what burnt flesh smelled
like.

July 15th:

Fell asleep by the pool. (Got 3rd degree burns over 60%

of my body.) Missed two days of work, what a dumb thing to do. I learned
my lesson though: got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this.

July 20th:

I miss our cat, Tabby. He snuck into the car when I left

this morning. By the time I got out to the hot car for lunch, he'd
swollen up to the size of a shopping bag and just as I opened the door,
he exploded all over $2,000 worth of leather upholstery. I told the kids he ran away. The car now smells like Kibble and poop. No more pets in this heat!

July 25th:

Ocean breezes, my ass. Hot is hot! The home air conditioner is on the Fritz and AC repairman charged $20 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order

parts. Only hope for a break in the heat would be a hurricane.

July 30th:

Been sleeping outside by the pool for three nights now.

Swatting the swamp mosquitoes that are as big as B-52's ; $1,500 in darn
house payments and we can't even go inside. Why did I ever come here?

Aug 4th:

100 degrees. Finally got the air conditioner fixed today. It cost $500
and gets the temperature down to about 90. The electric bill is almost
as much as the house payment. And two old lady drivers almost ran me off
the road. I hate this state.

Aug 8th:

If another wise jerk cracks, "Hot enough for you today?"

I'm going to tear his head off. Damn heat! By the time I get to work,
the radiator is boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell
like old socks!!

Aug 10th:

The weather report might as well be a damn recording:

Hot and sunny. It's been too hot for two months and the weatherman says
it might really warm up next week. And whoever came up with the
statement, "it may be hot, but at least you don't have to shovel it"
should die from heat exhaustion. Doesn't it ever rain in this
God-forsaken place??

Aug 14th:

Welcome to Hell!!! Temperature got to 102 today. Forgot to crack the
window and blew the windshield out of the Cadillac. The installer came
to fix it and said, "Hot enough for you today?" My wife had to spend the
$1,500 house payment to bail me out of jail.

Aug 30th:

Worst day of the summer. I'm not leaving the house. The monsoon rains
finally came and all they did is to make it muggier than hell and drove
the damned roaches out of the ground. Wasn't aware they could fly! The
Cadillac is now floating somewhere in the Caribbean with its new $500
windshield. That does it, we're moving back to New York where all you
have to worry about is getting mugged.

I hope this state breaks in half and floats to Cuba !

Well it's good to hear your getting out of there.  Other than the heat, traffic, mosquitoes, blue hairs, heat and mosquitoes you'll probably love it.

Did I mention the heat and mosquitoes?

I think you might need to brush up on your road rage skills if you are coming down here, it's the shittiest city to drive in.

Hope you know how to speak Spanish too!

Seriously, good luck.  We came down from Cincinnati (hey, isn't that in a Buffett song?) over 12 years ago and we're not going back.  The first year feels like a vacation, especially weekends, then you start to settle in to a routine.  Don't try to see everything on your first few weekends as there'll be pleny of time to take in the sites.

And you'll often see/hear the phrase "we don't care how you did it up north" - well, give it a month or two and it'll hit you as to exactly where that comes from.  Florida has it's own pace, crappy service included, but you get used to it.

Do it, it will keep you sane.  Fortunately I'm up in North Florida on 400 acres of family farm.  I can get lost in the woods in about 5 minutes.

Seriously I hope you enjoy liiving here.  We get so many northerners who fail to assimilate (and still vote they way the used to) down here that sometimes it feels like we're not in the South anymore.

Get out of that shithole state as fast as you can...........welcome brother........just one favor, dont be that guy that moves down and bitches about how it isnt NY......and dont be that guy that plasters NY yankees or any other team all over every square inch of your car........we dont care, you make yourself a target and I usually piss on those rides when I see them........other than that, again welcome

Good news.  Are you still going to be in S. Florida?  Even down south you don't have to drive far to be in woods.  Congrats.

North Miami beach.

My wife has her whole family there, great private schools, easy cheap living.

Gun ownership isn't just an option there, it's a necessity, but I feel fine in the neighborhood at night (within reason).

Very very excited about the tssa and sfdcc.
