I used to go up North Fork Road in rural Washougal to go shooting on DNR land in the Yacolt Burn State Forest.  This is state DNR land, with active logging, four wheeling, drunken asshattery, and littering going on up there.

In another thread about shooting spots, it was told that there is a new sign at the school bus trun around where North Fork Road meets DNR land that just says "No Shooting", and references a couple of state "laws":
WAC 332.52
RCW 43.30

I cannot find anything in there about "No Shooting", but that doesn't mean it's not in there.  Can someone help me nail this down so I an call up my local DNR office and bitch about how they are closing public land from public use?  I have used the search feature for the state legislature to teh best of my ability, and can find nothing that says "no shooting".

TIA!

Well, the RCW appears to just be an outline of their authority, however the WAC COULD be translated to give them a reason to ban shooting:

apps.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?cite=332-52-030

WAC 332-52-030 General rules.

(3) Audible devices

    (a) Operating or using any audible devices, including radio, television and musical instruments and other noise producing devices, such as electrical generating plants and equipment driven by motors or engines, in such a manner and at such times so as to unreasonably disturb other persons.

You could VAGUELY translate that as authority over audible devices such as firearms...vaguely.

Of course they may be miss reading this one:
apps.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?cite=332-52-040

WAC 332-52-040 Public behavior — Recreation sites.

(2) Discharging firearms. No person shall discharge across, in, or into any portion of the developed recreation site a firearm, bow and arrow, or air or gas device or any device capable of injuring or killing any animal or person or damaging or destroying any public or private property except where the department has authorized otherwise.

By miss reading it, I mean they ignored the word "developed"

Thanks.  I guess that I'll just have to call and try to fond out what's up.

A sign like that with the same codes on it is sitting outside my favorite shooting spot.

Is it a state sign or a county sign?

I know there are various parts of Skamania that are restricted by county ordinance.

The sign has the words "Washington Dept of Natural Resources". and their logo.  Nothing on the sign about Skamania county on it.

Didn't get the call made today, but I will call and report.

It may be passed under a county ordinance.  The RCW/WAC may just be where the county gets the authority to pass such an ordinance.

Interesting.

The only other signs I've seen for no shooting have nothing written on them about laws or ownership. I'll have to stop and look at the Skamania sign on top of Bear Prairie and see what codes it lists, I'm pretty sure it lists some. Clark is pretty unrestricted out side of the towns.

Just a little update, I haven't gotten an answer from the DNR folks, either from my phone calls or emails.

Up by Concrete there used to be a shooting spot that got closed down. So I drove the logging road up till it ended. Those signs were every place until I got up top.

I ran into a DNR guy and asked him what was up with the signage he said there were houses up in the hills so DNR posted do not shoot.

In the drive up the last mile I saw no signs, so I asked if it was ok there.

He said it's state land and you can shoot here just clean up.

So I shot.

Then I loaded the 4 newly dumped tires that were on top of the recent snow

Dumping trash gets more spots shut down than anything.

I have no idea if the house thing was BS or not, I know there are houses up in that area tho.
