These were all parts kits that I had purchased a few years ago before the prices got too insane. If I recall, the yugo kits were a little over $100. I have one more build on the way to me; I just need to have it transferred through a local FFL because the original receiver was crappy (it was a Vulcan Arms receiver). Gary at Overland Industries overnighted Nodak payment and had the new receiver in hand a few days later. I can't recall how many times Gary has told me, "My main concern is customer service....I want you to be as happy as possible." Gary built each kit for a whopping $150. This included the build, refinishing the wood to your liking, and all metal refinishing. I paid $45 to get the kits out to him in Lake Havasu, AZ. I think that his prices have recently increased to $200 for a demilled kit build (which is still a heck of a deal in today's market). We have also spoke about completing a build from a Virgin Parts Kit (like a Yugo m92) and the price is $300. Most builders charge $300 for a regular demilled kit. So, if you want excellent results, the best customer service, and a good lead time (builds take around 4 weeks I think), then Gary at Overland Industries is the guy to go to. |
| No, he is located in Lake Havasu, Arizona. You can have him buy the receiver and you will need to transfer it locally. The other option is buying the receiver and transferring it to you, then send that receiver in with your parts. I still came out approx. $140 cheaper than some of the local ak smiths (this accounts for the shipping to Arizona). |
| I say good on 'em. I wish I could figure out a way to build them for that cheap, but honestly even at nearly double the price we haven't even paid off our tooling and shop overhead after nearly 3 years of doing it. I figure he's either a genious or just retired with no 50 hour per week day job, or both. |

Sorry, I wasn't trying to knock anyone in particular. I was just stating the facts from some of my research. You guys do nice work too! The finish is gunkote black. I also wonder how he keeps his costs down that low. Maybe he had some of the equipment from another line of work...not really sure. I think that he also has a storefront or atleast he sells other firearms related items, sp that may help out his business too. Yeah, the pics are freakishly tiny. I wonder if it is photobucket's doing or something on my end. I will try to snap some pics of the rivets and the finish in a few days. |
Hey, I think Eric has one of those!! |

No, I am pretty sure he called it shake-n-bake AK.. Remember the commercial?? I would be the young girl.. ![]() "It's shake-n-bake.." "And I helped!!" |
Fixed it for you... |
Presuming when that range opens there are any parts kits to build AKs on. Anyone been hunting for parts to build AKs out of recently? Not so good. The era of the homebuilt/small shop built AK is coming to an end. I'm on record as saying two years from now basic AKs will cost as much as basic ARs. And your choice of configuration will be very, very slim. So Rockasons is doing it right, getting a variety of variants built while he still can. |
this is ture, i saw a polish underfolder one of Dans kits go for 500 bucks, i cant believe it. rommy g kits going for 250 bucks crazy stuff. Ronald |
I agree that foreign AK rifles and parts are drying up but with the declining dollar more things with be made in the USA again. It will cost less to make and build AK rifles here. America will flood the global market with cheap AK rifles. Now that is ironic. |
