Unfortunately, this is a twice a year event now.  Once in the summer and once in the winter.  Usually, right after school is out and during Christmas break.

It has escalated to this point since the Metro station opened.  Note: the previous statement does not necessarily imply any causal effect but is indeed fact.

Other types of violence usually occur on Friday and Saturday nights in the smoking areas if you are wanting to know when and where to stear clear of at Springfield Mall.  In case you have not noticed, the Mall did away with the smoking area outside of the food court.

In other Fairfax County news, FCPD killed a bank robber near Penn Daw Plaza off of Rt.1.

May as well be twice a day in my opinion. I stay away from SM altogether, as if it was.

It happens way too often for me and the concern I have for the safety of my family.

I stay out of NoVA all together for the most part, barring the Potomac Mills trip, DC Museum trip, Alexandria Masonic Memorial trip...  Good friend of mine is Prince William Officer, and works Dumphries primarily--fun fun.

It seems like the illness of DC has been trying to work outward, which stinks, because I love the history and places in DC, NoVA, and most of the people.

I don't think I'd make it to Springfield Mall anytime soon, and rest assured I'd be packing if I did.  My sympathies to the victim and the family.

Last time I was at Springfield Mall was back in '93.  It was the first, last and only time that I've ever been burglarized.  Any place that is frequented by people who'd break into a piece of shit Ford Escort ($750 from the base lemon lot) and steal a $50 stereo made by a company you've never heard of before...

I was coming out of the Metro and heard sirens.  Saw 2 fire engines responding and heading towards the Mall.  Didn't know what it was till I saw the news at home.

Call me cinical but, based on my experience in this area, I would bet the individuals involved in the altercation deserve no sympathy...usually one low life against another.  Just my suspicion.

i remember when we first moved here when I was a kid in the early 80s into Dumfries...there was absolutely nothing between Springfield and Fredericksburg in terms of civilization...if you wanted movies, you had the dinky 2 screen theater in dale city, or you were driving...

back then it was an enormous treat to go to springfield or fair oaks mall...even when i was in high school...hell, i used to play soccer where potomac mills is (I remember when it was just Waccamaw pottery)

now it seems like that area is more and more like a slum....its too bad...I avoid going up there like the plague

Don't know yet, but I am just north of the mixing bowl and will bet my net paycheck that it was involving MS-13 or SSL.

I am trying to deny my cynical nature and give them the benefit of the doubt.  I try to forgive all, but damn...  that's hard with these vacant deposits of protoplasm.

Stabbing at Springfield Mall
By: Times Staff
12/27/2006

Fairfax County Police have arrested a suspect in a stabbing at Springfield Mall Tuesday.

Police responded to an altercation at the mall that resulted in a 19-year-old Hybla Valley man being stabbed. The victim was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital with what appeared to be life-threatening injuries, police said.

Officers at the mall obtained the suspects name and quickly located him near the Barnes & Noble store across the street. The suspect was treated for minor injuries to his hands and was then taken into custody, police said. Police said the suspect and the victim know each other and have had an ongoing dispute.

Dashawn Callahan, 18, of 7309 Hollyford Lane in Kingstowne, was charged with malicious wounding and is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
