Alright,
I, like many others on here acquired the NFA Trust through the GearHog deal on here and have received back my documents. I have that about purchasing a silencer online as that is where I purchase most of my firearms. Do any of you have any good site recommendations for competitive prices? I have been looking at the Silencer Shop. I will be starting off with a 22 Silencer that can also handle 22LR loads. Any input here on brands, experiences, etc. is welcomedl. I am currently looking at the AAC Element 2. If I do buy one online I will need to ship it to a Class 3 Dealer around the St. Louis/St. Charles/Chesterfield/O'Fallon area. Adventure Shooting Sports looks to be the closest, has anyone dealt with them before? Any other recommendations for something nearby? Also, I have my Florida CCW but my License/ID is Missouri based, does that change anything? I want to make sure that I am totally compliant. As far as transporting these NFA items say to Illinois to my parents home on private ground. Is that legal? I would like to be able to take it to our farm and shoot them out there as typically that is where I go to shoot the firearms that I own. This is literally in the sticks across 4 creeks and on 1000 acres. I just want to make sure that if I did get pulled over in Illinois that the item is legal and could not be confiscated. Thanks for any help and advice. Hitman9921 |

All NFA items are illegal in Illinois. So no playing with it over there.
Your FL CCW doesn't change anything. I believe Silencer Shop's site has a good FAQ with answers on the whole Form 3 and 4 / across state lines transfer. If you want the process to be quicker and easier I'd recommend buying local. http://www.bjbfirearms.com/ is my dealer in St Charles. |

Illinois is a no-no with anything fun. Even to take it to another NFA friendly state, you have to submit a 5320 and get it approved by ATF. But hey, welcome to the world of NFA weapons! I bought my latest suppressor through Silencer Shop, as they seem to have the best prices. The whole purchase/ transfer is very easy on their site. All you need to do is figure out who you're doing the transfer through. I'm using Jeff from MOA for mine. CCW means nothing for any NFA weapon. You used to have a C&R, but not anymore. Good Luck! |

But where is it written you need approval from ATF for a silencer to cross state lines? SBR & MG, I agree, but what I read, it wasn't required for silencer.

Which brings up another thought. As silencers are not allowed in Illinois, are they still protected by the free transport law (I.E. in trunk, unloaded, not accessible, Etc.), while traveling through the state? I would think so, but if anyone has any information for or against this, I'd like to know. Brian |
| Some SBRs are legal in IL now. I believe that they must still be 26" or over though. As an IL resident you must either be a dealer(C&R counts) or a war reenactor involved with a recognized group or something like that. I also believe that certain AOW are legal but don't know the specifics on that. How this applies to an out of state resident bringing them to IL I have no idea. |
