I was out with my girlfriend today, and we dropped by the capitol on a whim. Too late for a guided tour, but we walked the building on an unguided tour. If you haven't been, and are in Des Moines, it's pretty cool. They have a printout of the building layout for self guided tours, so it was pretty good. All the various walk in areas we went to, there was at least one secretary type person there to answer questions.
I had my SOG Flash 2 on me, and at the metal detector I asked the guards if they would confiscate it, or hold it for me until the visit was over so I didn't have to go to the car and put it away. They held onto it for me, and gave me no hassle for having it. Much better than TSA at the airport. Sorry for the lack of pics, but I have a cheap ass go phone, and didn't have my camera since it was impromptu visit. I do want to go back again and take a guided tour, as I'm sure there is a lot more info they give you on that tour. Also, on the second floor, they have a big model of the USS Iowa. |

Hate to be a downer, but last time I went to there, I was notified that my government does not trust me and that I am less equal, then was stripped of my right to bear arms before being allowed to exercise my right to petition for redress of grievances.
Contrast this with the MN state capitol building, where I was trusted. |

Play nice Joel or I'll take your Pop Tarts away from you!
There are pros and cons to many other States and when they are brought to our attention a person should not be admonished for it.
It would be awesome to have that kind of access to our State Capital like Texas does with their CCW holders...and an express line at that! |

Although, I do like the "That's adorable" comment; I will have to make a point of using it sometime. |

Hate to be a downer, . Then don't
Reality sucks, all I do is state the facts. Yep, It's a good thing that you stopped in to set the mood straight. Shit even Septic didn't bitch about it (I'm sure he's just as unhappy about it, as the rest of us). It's ok to enjoy life, not everything has to be a depressing discussion on how shitty life is. |

I will gladly give a "guided" tour of the building including the top of the dome (yes the very top) to anyone that wants one the next time I am in DM... it does make a good Christmas card photo. Let me know next time you're in town and free to do that tour. If my schedule works out that would be awesome. |

My parents back years ago had a friend that worked that "Mark Tony" RIP and he took them all the way to the very top and they said it was an amazing view. But a little scary go up there sense it was an old stair case up with no hand rails. But please let me know too your free. |

I will warn you though the climb is not for the faint of heart, there are handrails, but they will not keep you from biting the big bazooka. And no kids under 12. I am usually in town a couple times a year. |
