I am in a small town who has had this tiny JAP mountain cannon out front of our American Legion post for decades.
I was fortunate enough to be stationed at a range where we were able to pick and choose from "targets" and make them some of the best ground static displays in the military. I am hoping there are contacts out here to pick up DRMO vehicles or target based "dunnage". I have run up against the good ol boy, "why do you care and what are you really trying to do" syndrome amongst guys who are dealing with people who already are happy with what they have at their posts. I KNOW CRAZY, these Vets want to upgrade...not that crazy. The truth is to get a NICE display piece here at the Legion. Everything is well documented but leads are necessary for this type of display. ANY and ALL help would be welcomed. PM email or the like - thanks for any help! V OUT |

Bear with me as I'm typing on my phone:
I went through the process of getting a static display about 10 years ago so I don't know for sure if it's the same. At that time all acquisitions were coordinated through the US Army Tank and Automotive Command in Warren Michigan. You can get on a list for specific items in demand like a tank, or they give you a list of available items that might not be as cool, but are available faster. Here's the link to their site: http://www.tacom.army.mil/main/index.html I don't know which section to call, but at least it's a starting point for you. If you need more help let me know and I'll get on the horn with some old Army buddies who may be even more in the current know. Good luck! |

I went through TACOM, MI.
They were gracious enough to let me know that units throughout the US send them their old items for redisto or destruction. Getting direct from the local units are preferred due the best choice of items is at the unit before they send it to TACOM. I called some DRMO at the individual units, McCoy, etc. Here is where the problem is; these facilities are full of ignorant DRMO personnel who either, do not want to help, do not know what the process is or what they have or just down right I don't give a shit, "it is not my job"sters. Frustrating. Ideas? Thanks on any leads or contacts. V OUT |

Did you happen to call MATES at Fort McCoy? Between MATES on the guard side, and the Installation Materiel Maintenance Activity (IMMA) on the reserve side. they both have a ton of equipment going in and out and they are likely the source of all the static vehicles on display at the Vehicle Park & Commemorative Area on post. Perhaps the POC for the Commemorative area knows how they got their vehicles and can direct you in the right direction. They're adding vehicles to that thing all the time.

Food for thought: Maybe they (and I mean the municipality it's located in, not the VFW) don't want an upgrade, because it would "glorify war". They removed an M60 tank from the VFW display in my hometown for that very reason, I shit you not. Wow, thats pathetic that they would do that. |

Bunch of horse shit. |
