I know that if i was still doing security I could have any color I wanted on my vehicle as long as red and blue were not on the same vehicle. But since I dont do security anymore, how legal is it for me to put maybe white or amber strobes on my truck? I was thinking either near the turn signals or placing some in the grill and the rear turn signals, not sure. Im just toying with the idea right now. Nothing solid yet. It would be for safety reasons, like if i have to pull off the side of the road for any reason or something like that.
Is it legal? Are there color combos to stay away from besides red and blue? |
| Oklahoma statute; title 47; chapter 12; article 2; section 12-227 says blue is restricted to law enforcement vehicles, class AA licensed wreckers (only while on scene of an emergency) and on DOT vehicles, Turnpike vehicles and county owned vehicles ONLY during emergencies, highway maintenance and building (but only rearward facing). This is interesting because according to Oklahoma state law running red and blues of any configuration is illegal for security vehicles, fire, and ambulance. |

Ive seen a few security vehicles with ops colors. I know full well they arent supposed to have red and blue together. So I guess as long as a avoid red and blue combos like the plague, especially blue ill be ok |

Security vehicles cannot display red OR blue lights facing the front. Those colors are only for Police, Fire or Ambulance. I've got a copy of Title 47 but its from the 80's when I went through the academy, it doesn't mention blue lights, those came along later in Okla, although some other states were using blue lights. |
| Yup, the statute spells it out quite well. I always knew that red and blue were no beuno for security vehicles although they violate that fairly often but the fact that fire service vehicles or ambulances are not included in those allowed to run blues. While most of our trucks ran red and white with amber, many of the newer fire vehicles I've seen also integrate blue and every ambulance runs red, white, blue. |
