http://www.wnem.com/story/17792657/house-adds-tasers-to-concealed-pistol-law Michigan residents trained and licensed to carry concealed pistols will be able to possess and use an electro-muscular disruption device under legislation approved Wednesday by the House. An EMD is defined as a device that delivers a shock through probes attached to wires and is commonly known as a stun gun or the brand name Taser. State Rep. Joel Johnson, who is a concealed pistol license holder, voted in favor of Senate Bills 29 and 30. "I respect that many people are not comfortable carrying a gun," said Johnson, R-Clare. "Tasers offer a self-defense option for personal protection that is non-lethal to the assailant but gives the victim enough time to get away from the danger and seek help. The legislation subjects stun gun use to the same requirements and prohibitions as a concealed pistol. "People who have the training for using a lethal weapon, such as a concealed pistol, would definitely be qualified to operate this type of equipment," said Johnson. In addition to allowing a CPL holder to use a stun gun, the bills also authorize reserve peace officers for its use during the performance of official duties and allow court officers to carry a concealed pistol or stun gun in a no-carry zone. The general statewide ban on non-licensed individuals possessing, using or selling a stun gun, as well as any other device that delivers an electric current, impulse, wave or beam designed to temporarily incapacitate, injure or kill, remains in place. The penalty for unlawful stun gun use is set as a two-year misdemeanor charge. SBs 29 and 30 now return to the Senate for consideration. |

My issue it's it seems to limit us to the rather retarded "C2" tazer. The C2 is designed to be politically correct, shorter range by 20 feet (15 foot as opposed to 35 foot range, putting it well within the 21 foot danger zone, tazer does not even sell 15 foot cartriges for the other models except as trainers), and standard cartriges will not fit, not "pistol shaped" more Star Trek The next Generation "Phaser Shaped", in other words completely impractical, and lousy ergonomics, the whole thing is designed to make liberals feel all warm, and fuzzy (and fails). Really it was designed by the elitist douches that run tazer to be a neutered "good enough" for us mere peons design as that's all they feel we need (sort of reminds me of the anti civilian policies of HK, and Colt) (they also do things like serialization, manditory registration, and background checks even though they don't have to), and that's the one the legislature picked. I doubt I would carry a tazer as it's just extra bulk, and of limited use, and could be an issue if I ever had to use the gun because it would allow someone to say "you had a tazer, why did you have to shoot him?" as they Monday morning quarterback my having to shoot, but if I did carry a tazer I would want a non neutered one like an X26.
If the changes the house made were mandating the stupid C2 I want the Senate to shoot it down. allow us tazers, or not, but don't stick us with having to use the neutered C2s. If Tazer would sell the good stuff to us peons is another story, but I have seen their products at other vendors, and I have no issue violating tazers anti civilian policy, but don't make their policy law. |

I was hoping they'd add on the regular stung guns not just TASER. With how cheap they are I want one for shits and giggles. Like a party favor? I don't think I'd like that kind of party. Honestly I just want one because of the electric arc, and sound. On the other hand an taser would make sense for my mom, she has bad arthritis and can not fire any gun over .22 caliber. |

Bear in mind though that Tazers are single shot (At least the models we will be allowed to have, even if we could have anything the most they have is the X-3 which only has 3 shots.), both probes have to hit, stuff can get in the way of the probes, they are wildly inaccurate, and it sounds like the only ones we will be "permitted" to have will be neutered, have lousy ergonomics, and a very limited range or just 15 feet. |
