I have posted a couple of requests and got good feedback from the forum on NC but now I need it for SC. I have been looking to move out of Florida and further north while still living in the "south". I am getting a bit tired waiting for a job to open in my company in the Charlotte area but one just
opened up in Florence. Problem is that I don't know squat about the state and I need to apply by this Monday hock.gif on-line unless no one else applies and it get's re-posted.

One person I know that lives in SC states that the Florence school system is very poor, most of that is due to the average income in the area and of course then the tax base. I would probably be able to live between Dillon and Santee but hopefully somewhere towards the center of that along I-95.  What are the SC gun laws like ? Are class III NFA weapons allowed everywhere ? I know that the state allows them but so does Florida and we are at the mercy of the Chief's and Sheriff's if they want to sign off or not, they do not need to. I have also posted to the Grassroots SC Web Site
but it looks as if that does not have as many members as this site does. How about shooting on your own property, I am looking to buy 8-10 acres and may be able to pull off a small range if the laws allow.  Suggestions for towns in the area based on a good school district and good gun owner relations with local LEO's would be appreciated so I can research on the web as much as possible.

Thanks,
Rich

My wife's family is from Florence.  But we live in Columbia.  Like many cities, Florence has good parts and bad, some schools are better than others.  They have good healthcare facilities, for what thats worth.  It's pretty close to Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand.  Weapons laws here are pretty good.  Class III  is cool as are Suppressors, if you get someone to sign off on them, but I don't have much experience there.  When buying firearms with a CWP no background check is required and there is no purchasing permit (as in NC) or waiting period.  As for shooting on your property it all pretty much depends on where it is, i.e you rproximity to town and neighbors.  You can not discharge a firearm within, I believe, 100 yds of a home without the homeowners consent, and many towns/municipalities have local ordinances that may apply.  Good luck, hope this helped some!

i grew up in Dillon. it has it's good parts and bad parts...if you have children, i would strongly suggest putting them in one of the private schools, as the public school system there resembles a inner city gangland school...it SUCKS...florence, about the same, only there school system is better from what i hear. buy Flotown is a nice place. i wouldn't mind living there, but currently i live in Conway, and work in the surfside area..it's nice to leave the city for the quiet of the country..
what place of employment.?

I am a cell technician, the guy that maintains the electronic equipment at the base of all of the radio towers so your cell phone works.  I have been working for the company now 8 years, previously working for a local Motorola Radio shop building police cars, ambulances, and placing radios in work trucks.  I like the company and I make good money so that is why I am limited as to where to go, if I know the area and want to move then it's a waiting game till' they get bigger and need more people or someone quits/get's fired. At 39 years of age I really would like to stay with the company and work towards a retirement, I don't want to be working at 65 and only have 10 years on the job if you know what I mean!

Thanks for the input I let the posting date pass on that Florence job. I contacted some friends of friends of friends and got some more input on the school system and it was not what I would risk for a "unknown area". Only reason I say unknown is that the only time I have spent in town is sleeping in a hotel or filling with gas on the way from NJ to FL.

I am sure there are plenty of private schools but most if not all are probably Baptist, nothing wrong with that but we are not and I don't know if they would accept him since he would not be following their practices. At least when we spent a few weeks in NC what we saw was mostly Baptist schools or public.

I guess it's back to the waiting game, every morning is like looking for the lottery numbers. I check the company web site for job postings, they come and go but they all seem to be for places the wife does not want or we have no idea about. Tough to make a move willing or not to a place you have never steped foot in!
