I have been to Sycamore a few times last year. Does anyone know when they open for the season or is it just weather based?

they're open year round rain/sleet/shine (trust me, I had the range all to myself on weekend in Dec when it was sleeting and there was a foot of snow on the ground)

Only exceptions that I know of is if it starts raining sideways or there's lightning strikes- then it's just not safe. Also they're closed for work weekends or when there are special events (listed on calendar available in the clubhouse)

Their 100Y range does close down if there's significant flooding. (happens after a big snow melt or heavy rain)

We should plan a Saturday for all of the members in the area, and get together there.

wow. I herped and derped.

Every 3rd Saturday is what I meant

Safety brief usually starts at 9AM. Entire course (if 3 stages) runs till about 1PM

(there's already quite a few of us on this board who meet up there monthly)

They have shut down for severe thunderstorms, i.e. obvious close by lightning, and for severe flooding will shut down the 100 yard line.

I have shot there in rainstorms, in -5 degree weather, and just about everything else you can imagine- when it gets real bad usually it will be 1-2 people and the range officers under the shelter, but they keep it open per the hours!

I did shoot there when the 100 yard targets, which were 5 feet high 3 feet up on the berm were completely underwater back when the old Kishwaukee flooded bad a few years ago- at that time they limited shooting to the 50 yard and less which was just where the water stopped- didn't want ricochets off the water surface.  I asked if i could shoot speargun on the 100 yard.

I'm down for this, just post a date and time. I just had hip sugery about a month and a half ago, so I will see how I feel when the time comes. If I don't make the first, we could make it a regular thing if there is enough interest?

Well, I think if the weather holds out, I'll be going out there today, May 12th  mid afternoon.
