Ok, trying to decide on a new tablet vs. laptop. Would love to stick with verizon. Can't decide on getting a tablet that verizon offers or buy a tablet/pc and going with a usb modem through verizon. Any suggestions?

I carried around my macbook pro for a while with a hotspot and then got an ipad 1st gen

After the cool new toy factor wore off I switched back to the macbook pro but will be getting a macbook air in the next month or so

I found on the ipad I couldn't "create" the documents I needed and no flash was an issue

I could modify documents fine but creating from scratch for me was an issue

I guess it depends on it's primary purpose.

Well, mostly I'll be using it for arfcom/internet surfing, but I do use auto cad and some cam programs on a regular basis, and most of the time it's right where I'm working at. I'll be under something or working on my car and have a "great" idea for a bracket or something and draw it up and cut it with the cnc plasma cutter. It's nice being able to think of a metal part I need and be able to draw it and have it in my hands in minutes. My little aspire one has been great, and has had multiple screens and add on parts thanks to craigslist, but it's time for something new.

If you don't need wireless 3/4 g, I highly recommend the kindle fire. They are $200 or so.

Past that I would go with an ipad. None of the competitive tablets are quite there yet and generally too expensive.

Soon there ought to be a wireless tablet for around $200 but its not there yet.

Don't get integrated 3G in any tablet . Instead find a wifi only tablet and then get a 3G/4G MiFi that allows you to connect to it using Wifi and it has a build in air card.  That way you can upgrade every two years and have the fastest wireless technology.  The built in wireless modems are not upgradable and will keep you running on old technology unless you keep buying new tablets.  The built in modems usually jack the price of the laptop or tablet up a couple of hundred.

That's not a bad idea and what I eventually did.

The only issue is keeping the mifi handy and charged
