Has anyone taken the Precision Rifle course offered by Tactical Reponse in Camden. I am looking for a class to improve my shooting skills at distance. Any comments would be appreciated.

They teach marksmanship with a focus on its historical context.

Classes are great,  the instructors are all volunteers,  cost is only $45 for a day or $70 for a weekend.

They hold classes all over the country.

TN has at least 3 this year, one in Feb in Kingsport and 2 in west TN later in the year.

I will be teachint at the Kingsport shoot.  If you have any other questions feel free to contact me.

Hey! Could you give us a basic equipment load out that we would need for the weekend or 1 day class?
I mean, I know we'll need porn and booze and lotion for Frank's fingerprint cards but other than that, what would we need?
J/K

Seriously, what is covered over the 2 day course and what would we need to attend?

I agree with Bob, Nice rifle range at PI and an even better one at Quantico.

Tatical Response seems to know what they're doing.  Dig DEEEEP into your wallet it won't be cheap.

i have taken Tactical Response course twice and like the company so much that I instruct the sniper courses for them. I think that it is a good program. Here is a link to a review on one of our sniper courses. http://getoffthex.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6321031321/m/2321081431 the precision rifle contains 75% of the shooting of the sniper course without the tactics and field craft. I like to shoot paper to get dope and grouping down then switch to steel for instant  gratification and save time checking targets.

No matter who you take a course from, you can make the most of your rifle training by. Having a rifle zeroed for 100 yards, a scope that has target turrets or a bdc for your ammo,(a 10x super sniper is very reasonably priced www.riflescopes.com ), quality rings and mounts, and match grade ammo. These things will save time and frustration.

I attended last year's Appleseed in Puryear Tn.  Fred had a good analogy for it... it's like being a little thirsty, so someone opens a fire hydrant for you.  There's far too much to absorb in a couple of days.  They go over the very basics, they get you prone, you lay on your belly all day, and you strive to get 5 consecutive shots into a 1" square at 25yards.  Is it fun?  no.  You'll be sore (unless you're used to hefting a rifle in the prone position)., you'll go home tired, but you'll have some great information.  Again, they give you the very basics.  How to hold your rifle, how to use a sling properly, how to position yourself prone, how to sight in properly.  You get a good history lesson about WHY Americans should be riflemen, WHY it is too costly a freedom to ignore, and WHY you should be worried about the future of American shooting sports.

You need to take one good working rifle that you are familiar with, and trust.
At least 100 rounds of ammo for 1 day, 200 for 2 days.
A shooting mat is very necessary. We were prone 90% of the day.
Basic supplies for spending a day in the sun, water a sack lunch, or check that lunch might be provided for a fee by a local charity.
Comfortable clothes, and a teachable attitude.

As far as a 'tactical' course, this may not be what you're looking for.  This is about getting  a rifleman's score on an AQT, that's it.  There's no premise of how to reach, how to use cover, how to cover multiple targets, or any other tactical scenarios.  This is getting rounds into 1" squares at 25yards. If the host range can offer it, the second day you'll be shooting 12" or so squares at 200yarsd, and 22" squares at 500 yards.

This is something that should be a pre-requisite for a tactical class.  Just go the Appleseed site and find out as much as you can.  I can't think of a better way to spend $40 and a saturday.

Be advised, while the premise is to bring a stock gun and off the shelf ammo, several attendees at my Appleseed had match grade rifles and hand loads.  They are also very child friendly, and will accommodate young shooters.

Thank you for your response. I think my gear will work. Can I shoot the class with a can?
