If you have HBO - or know someone who does - I would highly recommend this movie.
Taking Chance Following are my comments I posted on Blackfive about the movie: Blackfive I remember reading about Chance Phelps on Blackfive and like many others was moved to tears. I have always been drawn to the stories about the warriors and their homecomings. Since I was about 11 years old I have worn both a POW/MIA bracelet and a KIA bracelet from the Vietnam war. Imagine being an elementary school kid in 1981 wearing these….nobody had a clue. Last night I watched Taking Chance….twice. It hit home in more ways than one. Let me explain… first, my great-uncle was a United States Marine. He was killed in action at Guadalcanal. My great-grandmother and his sister – my grandmother – were not able to bury him until years later. He was interred overseas then returned home for burial at a later date. They simply were not able to provide our fallen Marines with the dignified return home they can now. Secondly, my husband is a Sergeant of Marines in the reserves. He was active duty when we met and was out of the Corps for nearly ten years but the call was too strong to ignore and he went back in as a reservist several years ago. His MOS is 0471 – mortuary affairs specialist with personnel retrieval and processing. When our heroes fall these are the Marines that prepare them to begin their journey to Germany and Dover and finally home. These Marines take an immense amount of pride in their job and I am equally proud of the job they do. Some of the training my husband had was at Dover. He spoke highly of the men and women there. From the tragic beginning of their journey to their final rest at home these hero warriors are treated with dignity, honor, respect and the love of their military brothers and sisters. This movie should be shown to every man, woman and child so they can begin to glimpse the bond these Marines have and the sacrifices. |
