So I have a friend tying the knot here in a couple weeks. Before he gets married we were gonna go out and do like we always have... just shoot the sh$#, smoke a few cigars and shoot some guns. Kinda to wind in to his impending demise.
Anyways.. I thought it'd be cool to order some Tannerite for the occasion (seeing as how they're from Eugene and it'd get here quickly and all) Which size to get? IE... how loud are the 1/2 lb canisters? They say you can hear them from 8 miles away, but really that doesn't tell me much. What amount is impressive while still being safe? Just looking for some suggestions from people with personal experience.... cus I've never used the stuff. EDIT:: Just to add.. plenty of property to shoot on. And located in the country. |

It's been about 4-5 years since I've shot any of the stuff, but we were shooting bottles a little smaller than a 16 oz pop bottle. Looking at the Tannerite site, I am sure they were the 1/2 lb targets. The 1/2 pounders are plenty impressive, and if you want more boom, tape two together. We taped one bottle to a 1 lb propane cannister. Very inpressive! Have fun! |

if you are in the portland area, this guy is usually selling tannerite at the gun shows. I be he has some laying around.
As for loud, I have liked it in the past when you put more than 1/2lb in a larger container. Like doing 2lbs or so (fillnig up a 2L pop bottle) that way you also have a larger target. I have seen some good craters made this way. 1/2 pounders are fun, but I am all for the show and the more you can cram in there the bigger the show you get. Plus one time my rifle wasn't sighted in quite right and I shot the lids off a couple charges, spilling the contents every where. Was not very spectacular. |

You should ask about 20# bulk cases, and talk to Dan personally. His phone # is on the web site. Then you can mix any size charge ya like As for how much... I like to do group shoots of 3 to 4 ppl with 2+ # of tannerite. Lots of fun, and if you spread em out the smoke cloud is impressive. Be careful of mixing metal and tannerite. If you experiment, keep your distance over 100+ yds. Have a blast! |
