You can buy it at Gander Mountain in Dayton. Legal Absolutely legal to buy and own. Whether or not it is legal to mix and use is another question. The most recent thread in memory: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_8_12/556959_Prosecutions_for_setting_off_tannerite_.html |

Some fire marshall put out some bullshit in a memo and now this question comes up every other month. If this stuff was illegal and they could make a case against the people using it, they would have done it by now. I've shot it, some dumb bitty called the cops, they showed up with the hook and ladder fire truck, an ambulance and 2 deputy sheriff cars. Asked if we shot Tannerite, we said we did and they said ok and left. |

Quoted: 50#'s? I hope you are doing this out it the middle of nowhere. If not, you'll have some explaining to do when the sheriff deputy shows up. I'd suggest you take neighbors into account with a target that large. Agreed. Unless you have TONS of space between you and any neighbors the large explosion will likely become a cause for concern from someone, especially if they don't know about it beforehand. I could see it being mistaken for some sort of industrial accident by someone in the vicinity. |

Uh huh, and how many examples of prosecutions did anybody post in that thread? Firstly, lack of documented prosecution does not make an act de jure legal. (And there always has to be a first case, right?) Secondly, I never actually addressed the question of the legal use of Tannerite in Ohio - only noting that the sale/purchase/possession of unmixed Tannerite is a separate legal issue from the possession/use of mixed Tannerite, and that the former is uncontested by any party. There are other examples of items which may be freely purchased and owned in a raw state or without the presence of related items, but that being legal doesn't mean that the other act is automatically legal. That is what I wanted to point out - that saying you can sell it in a raw (unmixed) state is legal has no bearing on the legality of mixing and using it. That may indeed be legal, but it is separate from the purchase/possession of the unmixed product. |

Uh huh, and how many examples of prosecutions did anybody post in that thread? How many examples of the mag limit being prosecuted can you point to? More than you can point to of tannerite prosecutions. One of them was discussed at length on this forum. If you mix tannerite and shoot it, the evidence of the crime is gone. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_8_12/286508_.html |

Everyone sets that god forsaken stuff of on July 4th around here. I love a good boom as much as the next guy but shit, Iraq was a quieter place when I was getting shot at. Don't be stupid and you are fine.
A 50lb charge might just cross that line when you blow windows out a half mile away. |

I believe it's illegal to set off fireworks without a license in Ohio. Unless you're blowing stumps the Tannerite is probably just a big firecracker. -- Chuck Uh, no. Not even close. You're supposed to have a license and insurance to set display stuff off......technically. |
