Tarantulas are thick at night time just outside of Vegas. I shoot at night, and the last month or so the Tarantulas are everywhere. One made it home with a shooting buddy a couple of days ago. It was in the shooting/gear bag that was setting on the ground. He was shooting prone till a few weeks ago. He now shoots out of the back of his truck. Ive had one crawl up inside my pant leg.  If its not windy, Im shooting on my trailer that I haul the "rhino" on.

But fuck, I see things moving all the time out of the corner of my eye and when I look, its a big fucking spider!

Im almost to the point of taping my pant legs and spraying my boots and pant legs with bug spray.

(I know, Im a big pussy)

Where were you at?
For the last couple of years my friend wanted to show his kids all the tarantulas during the mating season.
He has always come up empty.

It would be great to finally show them.

Awesome. I was with a group of about 40 cirque performers camping down at AZ hot springs about this time a few years back. Literally 100's of those guys running through the campsite.

Quite the ruckus from all of those performer girls and less than masculine soft gentle type guys as they ran around screaming!
I had to remove a few from various tents, because nobody else would pick them up.

Out 93 going toward Alamo. My same friend was out there by himself a week or so ago and said when he was leaving (driving out toward the hwy), he stopped and watched a "herd" of them cross the dirt road. He said there was "hundred's" of them and quickly said "well, maybe not hundreds, but at least 50 or 60". Never seen any of them till a few weeks ago. Now there thick out there. Ive seen brown and black ones. I guess they're different breeds.

As far as shooting from the bed with the tailgate down in prone, the truck is shut off, doors closed and no one is inside the truck. The bed is not concedered "inside or from" a vehicle. It would be the same as leaning across your hood and shooting. He doesn't want to shoot from the bed (short bed), but he just want's to stay up away from the spiders. We shoot about a mile from the hwy out in the dark. Im guessing he will be ok.

Im the worlds biggest pussy when it comes to bugs and insects BUT I actually like tarantulas, dont kill them. Bring all kinds of hell down on those fucking vigaroons and I could care less. The lesson here is slow moving, non-jumping things are ok...fast moving things need to die...

OK, but wouldn't that pertain to hunting?
I personly dont give a shit because I not the one doing it but I was be stunned if some BLM dude popped up from behind a tarantula and arrested him for it. Were 25 miles from town shooting steel targets at night time. But then again, with how crazy cops are today, I wouldn't doubt it.

We have had the BLM creep up on us in the dark with their lights off before. (sneaky fuckers)

No loaded long guns in or on a vehicle. Is that strictly for hunting or is there an NRS that addresses that too?

scooter i'd recomend you read through the statute i posted above again. even shooting from your trailer is considered discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle.

also it doesn't matter weather your vehicle is moving or at rest.

I took a hunter safety course earlier this year. The instructor was LEO i believe metro and he was pretty clear on this one and went so far as to say don't even use your trunk as a rest.

The law seems like it has some grey area with the for lawful business or activity bit but as the saying goes you may beat the rap but not the ride.

loaded firearm in vehicle

NRS 503.165  Carrying loaded rifle or shotgun in or on vehicle on or along public way unlawful; exceptions.
     1.  It is unlawful to carry a loaded rifle or loaded shotgun in or on any vehicle which is standing on or along, or is being driven on or along, any public highway or any other way open to the public.
     2.  A rifle or shotgun is loaded, for the purposes of this section, when there is an unexpended cartridge or shell in the firing chamber, but not when the only cartridges or shells are in the magazine.
     3.  The provisions of this section do not apply to paraplegics, persons with one or both legs amputated or who have suffered a paralysis of one or both legs which severely impedes walking, or peace officers and members of the Armed Forces of this State or the United States while on duty or going to or returning from duty.

Had a friend run into this problem.  He owns a Ferret armored vehicle with a 1919BMG mount.  He wanted to mount his 1919 and shoot it from the Ferret.  Not only was it illegal to shoot from a vehicle moving or not, to get a permit to do so was hella hard, very, very few of those issued and the ones people have in my home state are generally for shooting from a plane in the air.  But moving or not, it didn't matter.  It may have made a difference whether you were on a road or private land but I can't recall.

But I see your point, you are not in an area of the vehicle that controls it, more like you are simply in contact with it.  I doubt they are very forgiving or exceptional in the rules though.  And if you are in the desert, not a road or access way, does it still apply?

That's a Fish and Game statute.

I teach Vehicle Defense courses and I checked on NRS 202.287 Discharging firearm within or from structure or vehicle; penalties many years ago.

I was told by Metro and Boulder City PD that the exemption in NRS 202.287 (3. The provisions of this section do not apply to:
(a) A person who lawfully shoots at a game mammal or game bird pursuant to subsection 2 of NRS 503.010.
(b) A peace officer while engaged in the performance of his or her official duties.
(c) A person who discharges a firearm in a lawful manner and in the course of a lawful business, event or activity exempts myself and my students from the law while we are training.

I guess the exemption would also apply to regular folks as long as they are not hunting from a vehicle (in conflict with NRS 503.165  Carrying loaded rifle or shotgun in or on vehicle on or along public way unlawful; exceptions) or doing a drive by shooting in a populated area.

This is not legal advice, but I believe you would be GTG under the exemption in NRS 202.287.

A friend once told me about seeing a "herd" of them crossing the road going to Nelson. He said they were coming out of the hills heading north toward Boulder City. He said it looked look something crazy from a movie.

Fuck that noise. After having one crawl up inside my pant leg, every time the breeze blew an arm hair, I would drop whatever was in my hands and slap the shit out of my arm while dancing on my tippie toe's like a little girl in ballerina class.

Ya, I was freaked out for like an hour.

When I'm out shooting, they seem to come out around 11pm to midnight. I've seen them before that, but around midnight they are in full force out there. I see a lot of field mice too. They're sorta funny, they hop up to us and look at us for a min then quickly hop back to a bush for 5-10 min then hop back out to check us out some more. Once, there was a rabbit that circled us two times. It was in the dark about 35-45 feet from our trucks. It would hop maybe 30' and stop for maybe 20 sec then hop another 30', two times around us, even while we were shooting.
Animals out there are crazy.

That only helps to a certain point. Had a tarantula walk across the street in front of my house a few weeks ago. And that's just east of Reno city limits...

I hear they make nice pets?!

Since 1989 I have seen none.
I like it that way.

I am disappointed to have seen only one Horned Toad, which do make great pets for kids.

This despite spending years in the hills east of G-Ville.

That is a very popular dirt bike riding area. Im guessing/hoping you never shoot over your backstop. Ive seen a LOT of critters while riding out there.

Had shotgun in hand hoping for quail so not super concerned with backstop but i was pretty well surrounded with good backstops and was a bit further off that main trail than the marker indicates.

There were some trailers which i would presume were for bikes parked on the next dirt road closer to the 95 but didn't here or see anyone were i was.

switched to the ar after i saw it and tried to stalk it out but it completely disappeared in to nothing....

Like i said didn't even take a shot but i am always mindful of my backstop even with the shotgun.

ETA damn missed page two ownage
