Looking at a relo package, and would like some info on the area.

Any pros/ cons on the locale?

Is Tn a ccw reciprocity state?

Thanks in advance

Relocating from where?

Yes it is a recip state pending locale.     It's a nice town, just some areas that I wouldn't live in (Red Bank, Brainerd, etc...).      Someone will be along here to answer or look a few pages back as this question comes up often.

Grew up and lived here most of my life.  I like the area overall.

Stay out of Chattanooga city limits if possible.  Property taxes, BS ordinances, and city council drama seem to abound in the city.

Hamilton county taxes are a little higher than surrounding counties, but you will probably spend the difference in fuel to commute.

Live north of the Tennessee River if possible.  Just a personal preference on my part.

For more rural settings, you will probably need to look north of the city (Soddy Daisy, Sale Creek, etc).  Ooltewah, Collegedale, etc are nice areas, but getting crowded and a pain to commute down I-75.  If you want to live in that general area, look into property off Hwy 58 for more rural settings.

Housing prices in the area are some of the lowest in the state for a larger city.  You can get something very nice in the mid-$100k range if you look around.  Good starter homes are in the high 5 digits-low $100s depending on what and where you are buying.

Cost of living is pretty good.  Stay out of the city limits as mentioned.

Several hospitals in the area - Erlanger, Memorial, Parkridge, Moccasin Bend, Kindred right off the top of my head.  The first 3 have several affiliate campuses in the area also.  Home infusion, nursing homes, LTC facilities, and hospice in the area too if those areas are of interest

Is the north side of the river a much nicer area? I know nothing of the area, I just want to live on the water or in the mountains.

What is nickajack lake like?

Thanks again.

Nicer as a general rule, but it varies (avoid Red Bank in general).  Really depends on what you want; if you want the "city life" experience, the north shore area around Cherokee Blvd/Hixson Pike seems to be the place to be.  Nickajack lake has good fishing, but don't know much about the area around it.

i live out in hixson about 2 blocks from north gate mall and LOVE our location...little on the busy side, but you can go about 5 mins up hixson pike and have less noise. i've ALWAYS lived on the north side of the river: grew up on Signal mtn, 2 houses in the north shore, red bank, and hixson. great area and don't have to mess with I-24/I-75 buttfucking traffic!

I live past soddy daisy in another county. We work in Chattanooga. Next place we move is Soddy Daisy or Hixson. We lived in Hixson, but I wanted to get some land and get out of Chattanooga city limits (because of high taxes)

Ooltewah and Collegdate are nice, I just hate the I75 / I24 traffic!!! If I didnt work downtown, it wouldnt be so bad. If I didnt work downtown I would live in Ooltewah or Collegdale, they are nicer areas I think. More expensive to live (because they are nicer)

I love the Chattanooga Area, I moved here from S.W. Florida and never wanna go back.
If you like parks, you will love it, they have so many!
If you love being outside you will like it here!
They have a lot of touristy stuff too. IF you love the civil war, you will also love it here!

Here you have the mountains, you have the lakes and river. The only thing you dont have is the beach. And you can get a cheap flight to Destine Florida at the local airport if you really wanted to! :)
Concerning CCW we accept most states, states that will accept us anyway!
We have pretty good gun laws. Some suck though (like local parks. If the city voted that you can not go to a local park, you cant go!. Sadly you cant go to Chattanooga parks or the county parks either. So some towns are cooler than others!)

There's a beach at Chester Frost Park!
