I was looking around at upcoming check points. Noticed a few things, No checkpoints in Shebly or Davidson county, not sure why? Anyone???  Are metro and Sheriffs only allowed to do them in large metro areas?

Also it looks like District 5 Fall Branch is going to be really busy.

Lots of driver's license check points for Dist 5 Hamblen county.  They also have set an alternate location for the check points. We have a MAJOR problem with a Hispanic population which is growing at an exponential rate.  Sadly state law does not allow our local law enforcement to address the real issue of citizenship.  The Feds have refused to help according to a speech given by our Sheriff durning the last election.  We have our own little Mexico.....

I would guess they do conduct checkpoints in those two counties but just simply have none scheduled during the month of August.

Shelby County Sheriff's office and Metro DUI squad do them frequently, I assume sometimes troopers will join in with them.

Just call in a report of UFOs.  Tell them there's a vehicle with strobing lights on just about every surface of it.

Seems like I recall a legal ruling that local po-po has no legal authority to hold a checkpoint? The ruling required at least one THP officer to make it "legal" for DUI checkpoints.

Now, local cops can & do hold seatbelt checkpoints.

Well as a resident of Carter county I sure am glad they are doing this rather than looking for the umpteen million meth makers in the area

Never seen a DL checkpoint. Local law enforcement can not do a DL checkpoint THP can but no local. Also THP doesn't have to be present for a county or city agency to conduct a DUI checkpoint. It is recommend to use state approved locations due to laws reguarding "escape routes", visibility, distances for proper signage, etc...

The only time that I see highway patrol in Shelby is when they are blocking lanes for construction on 240.  I don't think that there is a need for them to patrol the state roads here since Memphis and Shelby have them pretty well covered.

THP rarely works in cities. Especially larger ones. That's is not to say they don't but it is not very common. The spend most of their time assisting county departments, and commercial accidents. They also provide security for the capital and a few other places.
