Co-workers and I were having lunch at Cabela's in Buda today and saw 2 guys dressed in military style uniforms (solid OD green with black military boots) that had patches on their sleeves that read "State Police" and a TX flag patch on the other shoulder, along with a hat that had the TX flag and "State Police" below it.  They had a pistol in a military style holster as well; looked like a Sig.  Would like to know any info on this particular department of the State, thanks.

Edit:  I am aware of the 1870's State Police that turned into the Rangers but have lived my whole life here and have never heard of or seen anything like them.

I've seen TABC officers many times but they've always been wearing the typical police officer uniforms or khakis and collared shirts.  These two had full on combat style uniforms.  I was thinking that they might be a special SWAT style unit of the TABC.  Just curious, that's all.  We exchanged hello's and nodded; they seemed very friendly.  I'm hoping they are some sort of new "Show me your papers" unit.

Probably a special unit of DPS.

I know DPS carries Sigs.

ETA: I know DPS Troopers wear uniforms that say State Police on them.

Texas Attorney Generals Office.

There were a few of them at Norman Smith's memorial service a couple of years ago.

DPS Patches are clearly labled.   I do know at one time when DPS officers worked off duty jobs they could not wear their state uniforms (DPS Policy}.   They wore generic "State Police" patches.

Of course, that does not rule out any of the other theories in this thread.....

The attorney generals office has state police tabs.

Any state agency issues P229's in .357Sig.

Not all state agencies issue Sigs.
