A few days ago a lady comes up my walk. The dogs go crazy, I see her on the security cams.
I walk out the front door, she tells me that she is with the census, and has a few questions to ask me. I told her that I wasn't interested, have a nice day. She blurts out.....but you have no choice.
I said excuse me lady!? Sir this is mandatory, I work for the US government. And this is not voluntary. So I tell her that we still have a constitution and I am not going to answer shit! She leaves. Today her supervisor comes over. Same run around. I told her I pay taxes, I'm a veteran, disabled fire fighter, etc. the .gov knows all they need to know about me. She than says I should just answer the questions, it would be easier for everyone. I told her to hit the road. Remove me from their mailing list She than hands me this paper, basically telling me I am in violation of some law. I asked her what the device was she is holding, she said it was a gps logger. That they now use to verify addresses. Now I'm not a tin foil hat type. I dislike someone telling me, I have to do something. I'm stubborn like that. Has anyone ever heard of this bullshit before?? What ever happen to the fifth amendment?

Had one at my house last week. Think I put her on edge when I answered the door with my hand on my 1911. She stated she was just mapping the houses via gps, showed her credentials to me per my request then left at a brisk pace.
P.S. this method works great for the Jehovah's too. |

I also had one @ my location walking up and down the street earlier this week.
I first found him literally standing in the middle of my neighbor's yard looking at it and righting down information. I thought for a minute how odd this was, as Ive never seen him around and people usually do not do this. He saw that I was outside and started immediately walking towards me. I am not a big fan of solicitors wether they are bible thumpers, girl scouts, or the neighborhood watchers.. I power walked to the end of my driveway and met him as soon as possible in the street with a warm yet firm "good morning". He said he was w/the census people, and handed me a flyer. He didn't ask me any questions though, or verify anything? As I walked away I threw the flyer away in my trash can that was next to us.. Moral of the story, dont let people up to your door/windows to allow to case your shit out. |

I went thru the same thing a few years ago...during a "highly selective, pre-canvass".
My best advice: Give them 5 minutes, tell them whatever they want to hear ( wink, wink, nod, nod) and get it over with. Or you can fight it out, end up possibly in Federal Court and create an even bigger problem for yourself. It's wrong, it's a violation of our rights of privacy. If a private vendor tried getting that info, it would be illegal as hell. But it's mandated by Federal Law...so make it as painless as possible. "I'm from the Government and I'm here to help you". "Then just go away!" Oh, by the way. They sell the info, deleting your name of course. But all the demographic data they collect is commercially marketed. Can you say "Crock o' Sh_t" ? |
| I got one at my house on Saturday. No big deal. Seemed like the typical government employee type: disenfranchised and completely tired of life in general. She asked me what the address to the house was and I answered. That was all she had. She said who she was and she was mapping address to the neighborhood. Didn't seem like much of a bother to me at all. I saw her up and down the entire neighborhood. The Census Bureau issues results every ten years so they must be ramping up for 2010. No biggie, I figured. But she didn't ask me anything else. Just that she was annoyed my next door neighbor didn't have an address posted and remarked, "And these are the same people that complain because it takes 911 so long to get to their house." Hate to say it, but she has a point. I pay taxes for 911. If I call them, I sure as hell want them there ASAP or I wouldn't have called them in the first place. |

Short answer: Yes. You must play their game. They hounded me for a month. Borderline harassment, but they have the authority. |

I then said why would I have that number on my house if it wasn't correct? She laughed and said "I know, I'm just trying to do my job". At that point I told her my house number and street name. I guess it didn't do any harm since she was on my porch anyway. She did provide credentials before she asked anything. |

guys its on the uppity up my brother in law is doing this also .it also helps with school funding etc .they didn't ask how much AMMO you have stashed did they ???????????????? +1 While I kinda hate to tell the government anything, I looked thru the form from a couple of posts up and didn't see anything too intrusive. The federal government has done such a good job in fostering mistrust in us that it's easy to forget that they do still serve a few legitimate purposes. While it would probably feel good to tell the census taker to take a hike, it would probably also bring about unwanted attention. I don't want them having a clue what I've got stashed in case the SHTF. Same reason I don't put a "cold dead hands" or whatever bumper sticker on my truck. I don't want them to be able to pick me out of the crowd. If/when it really matters, I want to catch them completely by surprise .

One of these guys was outside my house a couple weeks ago too. I saw him just kinda standing around outside my apartment alternating between looking at my apartment and his little hand-held GPS thing. I hid my CCW and went outside to confront him. Same deal, "My name is so-and-so and I work for the US Census Bureau". We had kind of a long chat talking about the history of the census and whatnot.. mildly interesting.
He didn't ask me any personal questions though... I assumed that comes in the mail later. He said he was doing quality control on the addresses... re-verifying them I guess. |

see how long you can string them along good use of tax dollars...it's not like google hasn't nearly mapped the whole damn planet |

The last person I chased off my property was an idiot that walked into the middle of my yard and started snapping several photos and proceeded to walk around back, they didn't ID themselves and made no attempts too, they started high tailing it when I rolled out from under my car and started chasing them, assholes left in the biggest hurry when they are made.
Having my property cased, and shit stolen leaves me trusting no one anymore. Make no mistake trespass here without IDing yourself and youll have entire neighborhood looking for you, its no joke, every neighbor here emails one another on suspicious vehicles and people. Neighborhood block watch never took such a stance. The census people probably wont bother with even coming out here, the distance between homes is not with in walking distance for the average fatass on welfare who now has job for a few months working for the feddies, if they more power to them, halloween doesn't happen out here for hte same reason.. |

That stupid form is almost as bad as the 1040 long form. I will be 41 when census time comes, and I have never even seen a census taker, let alone even seen a census form, though for the 1990 census I was living in Switzerland, guess they could not find me there. |

Yeah i know....you can call me nuts but when you see random check points on the highway......ads on tv for a biometric card to travel anywhere, and gov't workers just arriving at PRIVATE homes DEMANDING information. it doesnt sound like we are gaining ground on our freedom. Most of you passive citizens wont miss it untill its gone.
btw "nazi germany" is a metaphor for anyone who didnt catch that

This census is basically taking inventory people.......you have no rights..... You do you realize that our census came from and, is rooted in the Constitution, don't you? ok so with that logic, The census program (which is NOT to be used to take inventory of people's PRIVATE lives and what they are doing is NOT in the constitution) should be allowed to be used to violate our rights to privacy, and to private property? the Constutution is being raped by big brother and this isnt census this is illegal SURVAILANCE!...THIS is what i realise eta: 1) im not trying to argue your points i am simply stating how i see it 2) the census program is used to collect population data IE: how many people live in the country, how many average per household etc for the benefit of the govt adjusting to match population IE # of house reps and eltoral votes per state. |

You can white and hispanic But you dont necessarily have to express yourself properly in English OR Spanish. Do you?
Either way, isnt this the first time in American history that the Commerce Secretary has to report directly to the White House Chief of Staff AKA Rahm Emanuel? Osprey, isnt this potentially against our Constitution or Federal law that the President is now overseeing the census? What about the fact that corrupt ACORN employees are being used to conduct the 2010 census? Sure I'll play, for now. |

You can white and Hispanic andDrink all you want. It's possible to mark a government form as White Hispanic or Black Hispanic. Actually it was late when I commented. I meant to write "be" to go in between the above sentence (You can BE white and Hispanic) not "and" Also I am technically White Hispanic by way of my stepfather legally adopting me. So there's the correction.

I just read through that and there's no f'n way I'm answering some of those questions, other than with a "nunya gdb" If they want income, go to the IRS. They want home value, do your own comps. etc.etc. eta: just noticed this was the FL htf, I followed another link here ![]()

I will tell them how many people live in my house.
Any other questions I will not answer. They called me for months when I refused to fill out the long form for the 2000 census. I value my privacy more than a $100 fine. For what it is worth, in time they quit calling, and I was never fined. |
| Any of you people justifying the census as constitutional read the 14 page PDF questionaire? How do you get to work? how many miles? how much is your income? what is your monthly mortgage? what is your monthly electric/natural gas bill? who is your employer and what is the address? on and on 14 pages. This has nothing to do with appropriating the number representatives for each state in congress. They will get my name and number of inhabitants only on my return |

The guy that came to me didn't even ask for the number of people living at the residence. Chatted about the weather and other small talk while tapping the stylus on his tablet PC. The only real question or interest was the name of the street and verifying the house number. I told him he could have used Google for that information. |
