| Ok, heres the deal. I live in MD. But Im going to school in Vermont. I talked to a gun dealer and he told me that all I need to purchase a firearm in this state is my DL from MD and a transcript from school saying that I live here 6months out of the year.... Problem is....is that im talking about ar15s. Since youve got to be 21 in MD to get one and I'm only 18 would I be breaking the law if I brought it back home with me? |

Make it a Colt or Bushy HBAR and you're GTG, clear on all counts. Otherwise, it becomes a matter of semantics and thin ice: Temporary resident qualifying to the purchase of a firearm that would be restricted in his home state . . . Strictly speaking, unless you are somehow treated as a VT resident (the transcript), the dealer is obligated by federal law to honor your home state's restrictions. He can easily and legally sell you a "MD defined" HBAR and so you can buy it there and bring it home if you are over 18. Don't forget mags.

Go down to the Town Clerk in Northfield and ask to register to vote. That will make you a bonafide VT citizen and you can buy the AR with no worries and bring it here with no worries. BTW I was told by one of the town officals many years ago if every cadet did this then NU could 'control' the town's elections.... |

I'm wondering if this applies (from the Code of Maryland - Public Safety, Title 5. Firearms): Section 5-204. Purchasers of rifles or shotguns. (a) "Adjacent state" defined.- In this section, "adjacent state" means Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, or West Virginia. (b) Resident of this State in adjacent state.- If a resident of this State is eligible to purchase a rifle or shotgun under the laws of an adjacent state, the resident may purchase a rifle or shotgun from a federally licensed gun dealer in the adjacent state. (c) Resident of adjacent state in this State.- If a resident of an adjacent state is eligible to purchase a rifle or shotgun under the laws of this State, the resident may purchase a rifle or shotgun from a federally licensed gun dealer in this State. Does this prohibit a MD resident from purchasing a long gun in a state other than MD, DE, PA, VA, and WV? |
Markings on the Barrel are sufficient. But why? Be a VT resident (see my post above) and don't worry about it. Do they still run a shuttle bus to Montpeilier? You could go and get a VT drivers license after you register to vote.... |
