Off topic, I know.
But...
What determines if I can subscribe to threads? Apparently no threads in the "hometown/texas" forum can be subscribed to. Other forums have the "Subscribe" button, but not this one. What gives?

I thank you have to be a team mamber ( paying member) in order to subscribe.

I believe if you subscribe as just a member that you get an e-mail when someone posts to the thread. Team members and up get more localized privileges.

That's what I wanted to do, but the "subscribe" button isn't available in this forum.
Guess "they" want me to PAY for this feature??
Not Likely.

We, the paying members who like to support what we believe in, hope you enjoy your visit here. I think you will find that after a short while you will reconsider your position on becoming a paying team member.

In the mean time, browse and enjoy, but don't complain about features that you don't pay for.

Just create an AR15 folded in your favorites and the right click and save to folder.

This would be my suggestion, if you wish not to have a full featured account. I can't think of any other forum that I'm a member of that has as many features w/o paying for them.

If you are getting subscriptions in other tech forums then I would suggest making a post HERE.

M4carbine.com, Semiautorifles.com, and AR15armory.com are all completely free...although you have to register with one or two of them in order to use their search features....but registration is free.

This forum will let me subscribe to ONE thread only at a time.  The subscribe button is over the first post in the forum.  And yes it sucks.  But, the massive use this forum gets would put an extra burden on the forum sending out more and more emails to non-paying people.  I Learn to deal with it :)

I feel the forum has saved me well over the membership fees and I like the "team member" items, that being said; you get what you pay for. or don't.

Hmm, perhaps an apology is in order –– I really didn't mean to piss in anybodies corn flakes.

I was directed to this site regarding a thread involving a range not too far from me. I registered here to follow that thread. As my interests currently involve handguns rather than rifles, I'm not sure that purchasing a subscription would be cost effective for me. Should my interests expand in the future, the cost for membership here does not appear onerous.

I also belong to two other gun forums, TexasCHLforum.com, and GlockTalk.com. Both these are free. Also, you are automatically subscribed to any thread you make an entry in, or you can subscribe to a thread manually without making an entry.

The confusing thing here is that apparently you CAN subscribe to threads in some sub-forums, but not others (including this one). It wasn't clear to me why the "subscribe" button was sometimes available, and other times not. That was the point of my first posting –– which, by the way, was NOT a complaint. I thought maybe I needed to enable something to subscribe to the one thread I wanted to follow.

Anyway, I apologize if anybody took offense at my reaction.

There is a great handgun section here also... Just throwing that out there... I joined here for the AR thread but spend most of my time in the home town thread now. Also hit up the outdoor section and handgun section daily.

When I first joined this site (and was new to ARs and firearms in general) I payed for a one year membership and it helped significantly. Being able to access more powerful searches and the archives more than made up for the subscription fee by saving me money on what not to buy. Now that I'm more knowledgeable and have little basic info to learn up on, I feel like I don't need a membership. Though I admit, I do miss being able to use the subscription features.
