......bought a wooden gun I recently bought a wooden gun but its all been a bit emotional Parker Hale .25-06 - handbuilt in late 80's and only proof fired - never sold or used. Fully bedded etc - all very retro and all very nice. Until I gave it a quick test fire at the range ( 30m ) .......... first round missed a fig 11. Checked I had boresighted properly and fired one more. Another miss. Tried one more after checking barrel again and it hit the target dead centre but sideways
Checked calibre as marked on rifle. Checked calibre on fresh box of factory ammo. All match. Totally baffled. Then decided to offer up a round to the muzzle and surprise surprise - the bullet was far too small. Sent back to dealer and from there to a Parker Hale expert. Turns out it was a .270 and the proof house had proofed it as 25.06 ( the parent case is identical so it will chamber ) - Would have been a lot more dangerous the other way around. Anyway, its finally back, properly proofed and marked with correct calibre. I guess the moral of the story is done assume the calkibre marked on the firearm is the correct one !! |

Well I had a hell of a day. We were playing football in Penzance and one of the lads kicked the ball clear into Devon So I had to ward off evil spirits and trolls in hell like temperatures, but I got it back. Video to follow of the moment when a bigass Devon warlock thought he could 'engage' an invader from the west And to make matters worse, I've now got to go to a bloody birthday bash |

Went to the Kent game fair.
It was bloody freezing so it was lucky that most of the stands were inside. Had the moulds taken for a set of fitted earplugs - which I should get in a couple weeks. I bought a little bag that should do for the bare essentials when we dump our rucksacks on the firing point and work forwards. also bought a lovely little British (Sheffield) made penknife with a guthook on the back of the blade - ideal for unzipping my dinner from it's skin Overall rating for show - OK as I didn't have to travel too far to get there. |
