I really enjoy dealing with him and his folks.  Good people, awesome inventory, good prices, fair deals.  I'm blessed to have a number of awesome LGSs, but when it comes to shows here in NOVA, over the years Trader Jerry has never disappointed.

That's all.

Can't think of anything nice to say, but I deal with them at their store. Different setting=different attitude for those guys.

I wish my experience with them was pleasant, but not so.  I had purchased a Colt 1911 at a gun show thru them and it was supposed to come with two 8 round magazines.  I got one of them and the other was a 7 round magazine which caused problems at the range.  Didn't find out til I got home and suspected that the guy who sold it to me must have swapped out one of the factory mags for a bad one.  I didn't do anything about it but won't spend money with them anymore.

Honest to God, I bought a EAA .45 from Trader Jerry many years ago, and I had continual FTF problems with it, no matter what magazine I used.  A couple months later I met up with him at the next local show, and he took the gun back and gave me full credit.  I ended up getting a Beretta 90-two from him in exchange.  That 90-two is a beautiful safe queen that I'll never part with.

I'll deal with Dark Sun when their prices are $210 cheaper than Trader Jerry's.  Same gun show, same gun, tables across from each other...Dark Sun was priced at $519, and Trader Jerry's was priced at $729

Trader Jerry's is all over the place with their prices. I had typed an entire dissertation of why I try not to deal with them but deleted it. People who don't live in SWVA who actually go to their store fronts will never know the absurdity that happens at their stores. I don't know why I still check them out every once in a while, but they sometimes have decent deals. They really don't seem to care too much about a walk-in customer versus a gun show customer. They were site banned or barred from the EE here during the panic for posting in the EE without becoming an industry partner. Anyone remember the $4k Colt 6940 in the Va htf EE? That was them along with ridiculous ammo ads.

I really like Aaron (sp?) and his FIL always hooked me up when I was in college and frequented their Claypool Hill store. It seems the other clowns in there don't have a clue or have preconceived notions on what is best and they aren't afraid to try to pull one over on you. I bought an SGL-31 out there a while ago and bought the remainder of ther Bulgy 5.45 AK mags. there was an East German Bakelite in the mix and this one guy walked over and pulled that mag out of the pile and told me it's not a 5.45 mag. He put it behind the counter and started watching it. I guess ol' boy wanted it for himself. I knew what it was and asked for it back. I've got other gems but that's another story.

ETA: I have bought from Dark Sun and they always seem to have good prices. The guy is weird as hell though. I bought 2 Mosins from him about 6-7 years ago and somehow me filling out paperwork turned into a conversation about how his wife gives great head

I can't speak for their store, just the interactions I've had at the gunshows. Sometimes they had a great price on something, and I decided to purchase the gun. Every time I dealt with them, they were friendly and the transactions went smoothly.

Any other time their prices were too high compared to the competition, I moved on and bought it somewhere else.

Their shop in Salem, Trader Jerrys II, usually has a good selection of guns. Some good prices, some not so good. They have the typical know it all, used car salesman type there that is loud and doesnt know as much about guns as he thinks, but it doesnt stop me from popping in to check out whats in stock.

Yup...Aaron is a very nice guy.  I just don't agree with their prices.  I've bought 2-3 rifles from them over the years, and I paid about going rate for them, though they were not high-demand items at the time.

Their shop in Salem is a good 30 minutes away from me, so I only go in if I am on that side of town for something.  I go to Safe Side Tactical before anywhere else...

I bought a Kahr CM9 from them at the Chantilly show a couple weeks ago.  I like them because they put their actual selling price on their guns unlike most other vendors who make you ask for the cash price.  They also had the lowest price on what I was looking for at the show.  Now I'm in the process of getting a receipt with the serial number on it so I can get a free magazine from Kahr.  Called them last Friday 15 minutes before they closed and the guy said he would follow up with me this week.  So far, I've had a very pleasant experience with them.

I'd stand in line four deep to buy from Dark Sun before I paid a Trader Jerry price. Unless it's a one-off DS always has the best price.

I don't mind anyone making a profit, I just don't want TJs to make it all off of me.

BTW....I don't get the DS hate. They always treated me well but then again I know what I want, do my research, and don't try low-balling them on a already good price. Being a volume dealer they simply don't have time for that and they will let you know it in a hurry.

You sure got that right.  The only time I've every had a gun jerked out of my hand by a vendor was by a dark sun guy.  He said the guns were for buying, not looking at.  When I said I was looking at because I wanted to buy it he made a smart ass comment that sent me the other way,  "oh, you want to buy a gun do you."  I have short hair, no tattoos, no beard, I'm in my 50's and I'd even bought guns from them before.  But I will not even stop at their tables now, I just walk right on by.

Trader Jerry?  Sure.  Nice folks, good prices, good selection.  Bought my M31 and Beretta 90-Two from him at the Richmond shows.

Trader Jerry is a good guy.

I've bought several guns from Jerry, some from jerry himself over the years, all good experiences

The only complaint I have a Jerry's involves one particular employee who is an older gentleman who wears bifocals down on his nose...I don't know if he still works there...I don't frequent shows much anymore, and the incidents I am about to describe happened many years ago at this point...back when it was still worthwhile to try and bring guns to shows as a private seller to sell to folks and try and look for deals

The only time I would have run ins with his guy is if I was walking around trying to sell a gun...inevitably I would run into him and he would ask to see what I had, look it up and down, ask what I was asking, and then act like whatever price I said was so far out in left field I must have come from another planet...he was incredibly condescending, and rude, and treated everyone I ever watched him deal with like they had no idea about the value of their piece of shit gun ( it could have been a .45 caliber Luger and it still would have been worthless shit)and acted like he was the blue book, and that the actual blue book should be disregarded in lieu of his god-like knowledge of valuation...and god forbid you should turn down his offer, not only would you never sell your gun and face inevitable ruin and starvation, but a plague would most certainly befall you and a pox upon your house...

A couple or things to keep in mind

1). I never approached him...I know dealers have to make money...I never went to gun shows to sell guns to dealers because I knew they would offer me much less than the gun was worth...so i never asked him to make me an offer.,he always stopped me to see what I had

2). I don't mind being offered less knowing the gun was worth because the dealer has to make money, it was the way he did it...the " you must be out of your fucking mind"...your colt 1911 you want $600 for?  You're an idiot, it's worth $200.  Glock 17?  $150, not a penny more.  Smith and Wesson 686+...that's worth less because of the 7 shot capacity, don't you know?  $200

It got to the point where I would just refuse to show him what I had, politely.  But that wasn't good enough.  Finally, after the above described encounter with the 686+ where he described to me why it was worth so little I asked why his boss was selling the exact same gun for over $800 new very, very loudly  for people to hear and wondering that if the exact gun was only worth $200 maybe they were ripping people off...he shut up and disappeared pretty quickly

My last encounter with him was almost 6 years ago at this point at one of the shows at the expo center...it was a particularly busy show around the time of the first election of Obama and I bought a G30SF from  Jerry...at any rate after buying the gun I'm walking around and sure enough I'm on he other side of the table and here comes my favorite guy and approaches me about my Gloxk...what you got? What you asking?  I showed it to him....and told him the exact price I had just paid Jerry.....psssshaw....these glocks aren't worth nearly that!   Blah blah, no one is selling them for that much..he then offered me, as he always did significantly less...I then showed him the receipt for the gun, from Jerry's for that day, which as tucked up in the styrofoam with the manual and stuff..."funny, I just bought that from you here"....making it even sweeter is Jerry was sitting at a table ( he was in a walking boot for something wrong with his foot) and heard a good portion if the interaction.

I know the guy still worked there after that, but I never had any interactions with him anymore...mainly because I stopped selling guns at shows...shows just haven't been like they were 10 years ago anymore....for the most part you're just better getting things online or at VA Arms

Anyway, sorry it was so longwinded,  but that's by Jerry's story....sometime I will post my story about the old Dark Sun crew ( ponytail as he used to be know )...that one is actually one of few stories that involves positive human interaction with them!

Truth - nothing but truth. Trader Jerry is one of the good ones, but he needs to QC his people a bit better. Gun shows no longer get my attention. When I have 2 hours out of the house, and $13 to spend, I use it for range fees at NRA, or lunch after going to IWLA, depending on what I want to shoot that day. I first went to gun shows nearly 30 years ago, and consumers were treated FAR differently back then than they are now. In a lot of ways, when I look around at shows, I understand why. I also lived in a different part of the world. These days, if I am going to be around guns, I want to be around people who actually shoot them.

I think I mentioned this to someone already, but I went to the show this past Spring and paid my $13 or whatever and couldn't find a damn thing worth buying.  I found a brand new pmag for like 8 bucks, maybe, and didn't want to leave there without buying SOMETHING..... so I essentially spent $21 for a pmag.

I like shows because I can see/feel new stuff.  I can also keep an eye out for oddballs that belong in my collection.

For $10 (Richmond show), it's worth it for me.  You can go to many shows without a single find, then the next will produce something cool, and reset your meter.

For some reason, some guys (especially dealers) can't just make a lowball offer - they have to lay on a heaping helping of BS. I was at the Richmond show
some years ago selling a few guns, and I was talking to the CZ dealer about my CZ-83 - good condition, older model without the hook on the trigger guard.
The guy acted like I was hitting him up for spare change, ran down the 83 for not being a later model and actually said "...I'm doing you a favor here" before
making his low low offer. I needed the $, so I bit - but I don't know if I'd buy from those guys after that.

In my experience, dealers are the worst way to go when selling - you'll do way better selling to a private citizen on here, Glocktalk, etc. I sold a TZ-99 to
Degoffs, and my butt was sore for quite awhile after that. But the guy just lowballed me - no Broadway production about how I was reducing the quality
of his life. And I could have walked and sold it as a private sale if I chose to, but I had already had it out on a few sites with no nibbles.

He's the guy that offered me $200 for a near mint condition SA93.  He said " people are only buying the black rifles.

So he is still out in the wild, eh?

I've lost track of time but it was probably a couple of years ago, for all I know he's gone.  He's the kind of guy I could see taking advantage of a widow selling off her husband's collection to cover his funeral expense.

If it's the guy I'm thinking of, he is still there. Conversely, he seems to be the most helpful at their storefront but still has an abrasive demeanor.

I've purchased a couple of items from Trader Jerry's.. Good price and service.. Talked a trade in with them one time and they offered 80% of the going market rate.. Not to bad.. I was under the impression I was dealing with Jerry himself.. Been a few years..

I know and like Jerry and I have purchased a few items from him over the past 20 years. He often does have really good deals but not always the best. Honestly, when he started charging $5 for the phone call to the State Police and then started adding sales tax to that $5, I started looking other places and often found better deals.

Regarding Dark Sun- I know a lot of people won't do business with them (including my one of my best friends) but they have always treated me right. Rod is a stand-up guy. David ("Ponytail" whom people seemed to have the most problems with) left the business a few years ago. However, they have started charging $5 for the State Police call as well.

I have been doing more business with DK Firearms and Liberty Firearms. Both are fairly new (to me at least) but have been offering some really good deals.
