What kind of training is available within an 8-hour drive of central Nebraska? I'm talking about something beyond basic NRA or CCW classes. I got USCCA's Front Sight offer last week and it looks like a good value, but it's still pricey. I'm more interested in handgun training for an armed citizen than for carbine, but a carbine class would be fun too. I am not LE or Mil. While I'm not an invalid, I'm not an athlete either. |

Sully from Defensive Edge is based in MN, but holds classes all over. I've been to two classes with him in KS and one in WI. He's a great instructor who really knows what he's doing and how to pass that knowledge to students of all types. www.slr15.com/training.html |

Front Sight is a top notch training facility. I highly recomend it. Look on ebay for a training certificate. I picked up mine for $100 for a 4 day handgun class. I am going back to Front Sight again in June for a second class. I'n taking my wife so she can go shopping during the day while I am shooting. FLUFF |

heard decent things about D-TAC in Columbus www.d-tac.net/tactical.html they offer a bit more beyond basic CCW classes I however have no personal experience with them |
Ya I been thinking about it pretty hard but not sure if I'll be able to fit it in but I'd like to and I don't know if my Bushmaster would last I've been having some problems with it |
What's wrong with it? Is it a factory rifle or kit gun? Add anything to it that made it act weird? What kind of ammo are you using? Mags? Do you run it dry or wet? When was the last time you cleaned it? Is your carrier key tight? |
I took my CCW class from them. They seemed decent enough. |

We do defensive classes also in the Cokato, MN, area (west of Minneapolis.) Also, just starting "TactiFun" where we will be having guest seminars. April 26th is a seminar on Point Shooting; our May class will be on surviving a knife attack. An earlier post mentioned Defensive Edge. Good stuff there! |
shootingsafely.com/advancedclass.htm and tactifun.com Jon Edwards and I incorporate much of the philosophy, content and curriculum from Steve Silverman, Firearems Research and Instruction where we have had instructor training. Here is a review what we do in a similar fashion: f-r-i.com/ccmag.pdf |

The Defensive Shooting Academy/Tulsa is putting on a two day Combat Pistol class in Wamego KS. Between Topeka and Manhattan. I took this class there last fall and it was excellent. TDSA/Tulsa |
once in a while I'll get a empty case jamed in the chamber and have to puch it out with a cleaning rod |
Heh, I'm hijacking my own thread... Get some Hoppes or similar solvent (CLP is a bit too weak, carb cleaner or brake cleaner in a pinch) and soak your chamber. Then, get in there with a good chamber brush. You can even chuck it in a drill and go slowly. If you've been firing Wolf or similar ammo, the sealant (not the poly or lacquer case covering) can get in the chamber making a sticky mess. Then get one of these: BCM Extractor Upgrade They sell them as three-packs too if you need more. Of course, inspect your extractor and make sure it isn't chipped, worn, or otherwise FUBAR. Make sure the extractor is also clean. Tear the bolt down and clean it thoroughly making sure to get under the extractor "lip". HTH |
I'm going to do some shooting next weekend I'll have to try that before I go out because after about 300-400rds is when it happens were are you located in NE |
I'm in Hamilton County and usually shoot in Central City, about 20 mins from Exit 332 off I-80. I'm in grad school now, so I haven't been shooting much lately. Sounds like it gets sticky after the chamber gets hot, maybe hot enough to stickify any crap in there. The extractor upgrade is available from lots of places, not just BravoCo. I know Midway does too. Takes about 5 mins to install. You can use a bullet or jag to remove the roll pin holding the extractor in place if you don't have a punch. |
