Greetings, Okies. I'd like to hear any and all information about Tulsa that you can think of. I'm considering a career change that would take me to Tulsa. |
|
The roads are laid out fucked up. That's the bad. Lots of things to do there, lots of GOOD places to eat, the big Wanenmacher gun show (allegedly the largest in the country) is at the fairgrounds twice a year, and there are a fair number of places to shoot (as compared to OKC). Tulsa seems to get more/better quality entertainment than we do in OKC. Housing is cheap/reasonable enough. You'll be close to some good lakes, if fishing's your forte, and you'll be a short turnpike ride (shorter than OKC) to Honobia WMA in SE Oklahoma (access to 215,000 acres for the cost of an annual $16 user's fee). Lots of pluses, few negatives. |
I would expect to make a minimum of $45K, preferably over $60K, but that's me and that's based on the type of lifestyle I would want to have. Your needs and expectations may be different. It's certainly possible to get a house for under $100K in or around Tulsa and cost of living isn't too terribly bad. |

It all depends on what kind of work you do DoubleFeed. If you are a security guard, then you'll only make about $9 an hour. If you are an RN, you can expect some pretty good incentives and based on experience somewhere close to $20 an hour to start and up from there. So what kind of work do you do? I wouldn't live in Tulsa proper, pick a suburb. I'm not one for the city life. However, I have to work in Tulsa so I could help answer any specific questions as well. Also, don't let the house under $100,000 statement scare you. You can get something VERY nice for less than half of that. I'm talking about nice, not some shack. |
![]() I'm going to Tulsa specifically for training so I can finally get the hell out of this field. I hate it. Guarding is low on my list of ideal iterim jobs, next to fry cook, but I'd continue doing it if I had to. It'd be nice if I could get something working around the airplanes. I'm going to likely be living right on the Spartan campus or very close. There is designated housing that appears one or two steps above barracks. The location looks like Tulsa proper, from the appearance of the maps. |
Spartan is on the North side if that means any thing to you worked down the road for 7 years. Well might want to commute a little. Best thing my friend is look then leap. Check out the area first then move their. Some nice places if you get away from the city {Tulsa}. Wagoner county is nice and cheaper then Tulsa county. Try Sand Springs or Sapulpa first. M 2 Cents |
I'm a misplaced texan myself. Can't tell you jack about the tulsa area I'm way south by lake texoma. Just wanted to let you know you wouldn't be alone in okie land. I don't know what your planning on going to school for. But the best advice I can give is something in the medical field seems like theirs always a demand for it regardless of where you live and it pays decent. If I didn't have the responsibilities I do. Thats the change I would make. Hunting and fishing isn't bad up hear either. |

The last report the average HOUSHOLD income for Tulsa is $24,000. Spartan has now housing on its campus at it is the middle of the airport. The last I heard spartan had a deal at the Falls apartments at 61st and memorial. That is not a bad area. Spartan also has another campus at RL Jones airport in Jenks. A note here that many of the Spartan students take some of their initial training at Tulsa Technology Center. The classes are transferrable and from what some students have toild me considerably cheaper. Goodluck. I agree security is a dead end job unless you are in the very top like Nuclear ReG. Comm or Nasa sometihng like that. I am trying to get a friend of mine out of it right now. The pay here is terrible and no benefits. I think he is finally starting to listen. If you need help let us n know...... |
Ha, I guessed that right on the money. No offense intended. Spartan has a lot of students. Learn to say "Dirka Dirka" a lot and you'll be fine. You should hear the student pilots on the radio talking to the tower and what not. I can't tell you how many times they have tried to collide with the aircraft I happen to be in. This happens all of the time. Amazingly, they never seem to crash. Good luck in your adventure. |
OK, let me make a new statement. A VERY nice house for under $50,000 is not out of the realm of possibility in the Tulsa suburbs. |
Bump for a fellow texan. And I cant help but love to whatch you guys argue. |

I would, but I'm not in the real estate business. Might want to check with a realtor. |
I'm sure you would along with a lot of other people. Here's 3 other cities for you to consider: Keifer, Mounds, Bixby. A little lower priced in general. Also, what about all of the rural land (where I live). Why not build a house, or get a manufactured home and put it on some land. That's a little more budget minded. I'm sure you could find a manufactured home for under $50,000 easily. Probably much less if you didn't need something 4 bedrooms, etc. Find a nice piece of land to put it on and fella would be set. Also, if you are out in the county (like me) you can build yourself a small gunrange too (also like me). Come to think of it, a bunch of TCSO people were just out here at the little range a few months ago. I'd hate to think OKLA-LAWMAN was here and didn't say hello. |
