One of my assistants found this little guy in our parking lot.

We have a lot of gophers on our ranch, but I don't know what juveniles look like.

Box? Gopher? Other?

Juvenile Gopher Tortoise. I have an adult living in my back yard and several others in the fields around me. I usually come across one or two babies like that a year. Cute little buggers.

Thanks.

My son wants to keep him, but I'm not fond of salmonella.

I know.

I was involved in relocation projects for development mitigation during the real estate run-up.

In any event, I don't want pets that will still be middle age when I die.

I find these idiots in the middle of the road in Canaveral National Seashore around Mosquito Lagoon all the time, have to get out of the car and move them before some redneck from Titusville runs them over

Rednecks usually put them in a bucket for dinner.

I can see it now:  Tiny electronic fake turtle being staked out by FWC (US Fish and Wildlife more likely) sort of like they have the fake deer they set out in the woods to stake out and catch the yahoos out cranking off rounds at it out of season or in a no-hunt area.

Noticed two adults in the burrow in my back yard when I was mowing last week. I guess that means more of those cute little ones on the way .
