I've been waiting for a delivery from the US & it's 2 weeks over due now, it's either gone missing or has UK customs got hold of it?

If it's the latter what's the score ?

Well you may end up getting a letter after about 3-4 weeks saying they have a parcel with gun parts or whatever and ask you to send your authority to have these.
A faxed copy of your FAC usually does the trick.

Failing that go to your local Parcelforce office with the tracking number and ask them to instigate a search and also to send an email to the National hub.
Their tracking system is better than the one available to us online.

See, I can be helpful

They'll send you a letter notifying of confiscation, if it's been confiscated. Everything I imported that they added tax to, just had to be collected and paid for at the post office. US customs have confiscated a few bits at their end, but that's quite unusual and I don't know what notification would take place (if any).

Don't worry too much. :)

You never know what will happen in terms of delivery time from the US (well, maybe with the really expensive delivery services you do). I've had under a week in the past, but on average it tends towards two or more weeks. I doubt a lot of dealers bother shipping things with much expediency after the order is placed.

Unrelated, but one package sent within the UK actually took the best part of a year to arrive. Thank God the buyer was honest as I'd refunded him a few weeks after it disappeared.

If they haven't contacted you yet - then whatever it is you have been sent will cost you VAT and a delivery fee of at least £8 on top.

I ordered a scope mount from the States and I got a card saying they wouldn't deliver until I paid up

Depending on the value of the items VAT will be payable. You will get a letter from Parcelforce asking you to pay the VAT plus an outrageous "handling" fee.  Your options are to either turn up at their depot and pay there and collect parcel or pay on-line and arrange a convenient (convenient for them probably ) delivery date.

If they are prohibited items expect the parcel and police in short order. "Mike" ordered a stun gun from the States, it was delivered followed a minute later by police who searched his house. Mike no longer has a FAC.

Graham had his "M-16" mags delivered by UK Customs and local police who wanted to know why he was importing mags for prohibited firearms. He sorted that out and then Customs said there was duty to pay.  He offered to pay them there and then but was told he had to go to Birmingham to pay before he could have the mag.

The "Mike" scenario...................

From what I remember, once a prohibited item is siezed it cannot be delivered as part of a operation. Unless things havce changed in the past few years.

I remember one young probationer asking me if we could mount a similar operation when he returned from the Post Office with a jiffy bag of cannabis which had been posted from Amsterdam. He had even borrowed a posties jacket so he could pose as a postie and spring trhe trap himself.

Would have made for an interesting day in court when the defence pointed out that the drug was technically supplied by Police !!

If it's sights I'm guessing it would be ITAR regulated.  Can you be more specific?

A while back I had a 'visit' following an order for a whole bunch of dies. It was to my work place .. I wasn't there at the time, but I'm told there were some very worried faces when they said who they were Supply of my FAC details sorted the whole thing out in 2 mins (actually they said that had the stuff been delivered to home the would have already known who I was and allowed the parcel through automatically). Their suggestion was in future to ask the vendor to discretely append the FAC number to the invoice somewhere which they said they would have picked up knowing what it was (formatting of the ticket reference is distinct).  It did seem that they weren't actually interested in what the items were particularly (dies are not restricted after all).. just to know that I had a reason to be ordering them.  A bit disconcerting, but on the whole I guess we should be pleased that there this is being taken somewhat seriously.

It's a long story but I ordered them mid December last year & they were only posted over a fortnight ago, if the set in EE had come up sooner I'd have had them.

Why pink?

i thought that Brownells stuff was less likely to be considered suspicious; in that as a big company they know what they should/shouldn't send....
i am also waiting for something from Brownells, and am hoping two springs wont cause too much of a commotion at customs .... famous last words and all now....

I suspect that they are ramping up security for the Olympics.  I would imagine anything coming in might be intercepted and checked out while they run information through the PNC and check to see if anything is flagged.  Understandable if so.

I don't have a problem with increased security.  What I do have a problem with is un-necessary restrictions

I had a similar phone call about some moon clips, rail and moonclip tool. It was held in customs for 2 weeks for an extra £11. They just asked for my FAC number and released it. I did query it at the time as the stuff I ordered was available at various rfd's and not controlled items. I was just informed all purchases from the store I used were scrutinized

Old sarge drop zone, its a surplus store in NY. I have had loads of stuff from them over the years but the last order I think August or October last year got held up. No issues in the end I just guess customs are funny some times. Other than that the only wait I have had was a week on a bolt handle for a 10/22 from Brownells and they claimed it was a FAC controlled part until I supplied them info other wise. Customs didn't know much of the firearms act surprising really considering it was just a spring and bolt handle .

My order isn't from a supplier it's a private sale, I've had Troy buis sent to me before by the same method & on the envelope the sender had written rifle sights, no problem.

My first order from Brownells I got stung by Parcelforce, my second took less than a week to arrive with no problems.

If the post office won't tell you where it is despite it being tracked start a lost parcel procedure and it'll miraculously turn up.

If you are doing something illegal (telling sender to ship with incorrect C5 declaration, illegal goods etc) it won't be the parcel that turns up.

Parcelfarce are very good at 'losing' small parcels; they migrate to the bottom of the cage and get left there, (it's too much bother for somebody to lean in and pick it out!)  If you pester them enough they'll put some effort into finding it.

On another note; if my sender from the States, puts "Small Machine Parts" or " Paper Punch Machine Parts" on the customs declarations, is he telling untruths??  (especially if they're not valued at more than 90 odd dollars??)

Wouldn't want to run the risk of being accused of trying to decieve customs. If you ask the sender to mislead customs you're also committing an offence and if they find out stateside forget any holidays there (unless you like orange jumpsuits).
