Good afternoon, all.
I'm looking to explore some caves or old mines in Georgia this weekend with my time off. Any spots you all regularly go? |

Do you have a Life Insurance policy that pays if/when you get killed .???
Stay out of old mines unless the owners are giving tours . Period . If caving , go with someone with experience and good common sense. If you are seeking thrills , and danger .Go cave diving in Florida . Very dangerous . Especially when your air runs out . gd |

Petty Johns in NOT a beginner cave.
I recommend Howard's Waterfall, near Lafayette. Practically impossible to get lost. Very few opportunities to fall to your death.( Maybe a severe bruising ) It's wild enough to be enjoyable, but safe enough to take a group of Boy Scouts (I took my Troop last year). |

Try contacting the NSS. I used to be a member a long time ago. I was certified as a cave diver , and occasionally would go into a dry cave. There are local grottos. They promote safety and conservation.

Dogwood City Grotto and Pidgeon Mtn Grotto should get you started or point you in the right direction. PMG meets in Rock Springs, GA every month and welcome a pretty diverse group of people and have a knowledge/experience base unlike any other grotto I have seen.
Petty Johns is big enough to get you hurt or lost. There is the Estell Mine trail on the back side of the mtn. Ettowah River Mine tunnel. Can float through it on a kayak. The Howards Waterfall Cave was a great recommendation. Start there....and take good knee pads
