anyone having any luck finding any?  or know of anyone selling one by chance?
2/19/2013 1:39:14 PM EDT
[#2]
Yes i had seen that one but i wasn't sure about psa as i have read mixed things about them.
2/19/2013 2:56:51 PM EDT
[#3]
I have a PSA upper and have been very happy with it.

Buy parts and build what you want.  Parts are out there, you can get exactly what you want, you learn a new skill and often save money.
2/19/2013 3:16:38 PM EDT
[#5]
I agree, I built mine and the knowledge you get from doing it will serve you well.
2/19/2013 3:16:58 PM EDT
[#6]
What do you all need to build your own as far as tools go?  Also what should i look at as far as a barrel goes? Im pretty new to this so im not sure on brand which to get might be easier for me to build my own since i wouldnt have to spend so much right away.  I just figured it would be cheaper to by a completed upper with bcg.

[#7]
A barrel nut wrench, if you get a free float hand guard it should come with one, needle nose, small punches, small hammer, vise block, patience. Some of those things could be improvised and there may be some other tools that would be helpful as well.

[#8]
If you're out of your comfort zone assembling an upper, I believe CCA can help you out.  Going rate is $100 IIRC.  Includes reliability enhancements like 5.56 reaming  and M4 feedramps if your upper doesn't already have them.

That being said, I have a PSA upper and while it's not top shelf, it's been perfectly functional.  Two friends of mine also have PSA uppers and have not had issues.  I also have other (nicer) uppers, and the difference in quality is obvious but not to the extent you'd think.

Beware:  they build to order.  What's listed as in stock is what they have parts for, not what they have on hand.  Expect 2+ weeks to ship.
2/19/2013 6:18:38 PM EDT
[#9]
Op get the parts and I'l be happy to walk you through it and loan you the tools.

[#10]
what would i all need to complete the upper?  And what is a good upper to start with?  also i need the lower kit and i seen that that is in stock everything but the trigger is it worth it or should i wait for a better kit?

http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/11936/s/palmetto-state-armory-classic-lower-build-kit-without-fire-control-group/category/315/

[#11]

If you want a different trigger than stock, than that kit is a good place to start. I like the 2 stage armalite, but you might as well get an amrmalite 2 stage.

To build an upper. You need a upper, barrel of your choice, gas block to fit said barrel, gas tube to kit, BCG, muzzle device, and a forearm that you like. The biggest benefit to  doing this is that you get to only buy the components you want once.
2/19/2013 7:19:11 PM EDT
[#12]
so i should probably pick this kit up then?

idk, the individual knows best what they need. Its a good kit if you want a better trigger. Though IDk why they send the car stock and A2 stock with it, but whatever.
2/19/2013 7:39:25 PM EDT
[#14]
well im going to replace the stock and grip but i need the lower parts and stock kit i just wasnt sure if they make good parts or not if its worth it im going to put the order in tonight.
2/19/2013 7:47:38 PM EDT
[#15]
if i knew more i would just buy it but i would rather be safe then sorry by asking people on here what they think.

There's a HUGE thread on PSA uppers in the AR-15 technical discussion area in this very website.

eta:  It must have fallen off.  You can go over there and search "psa".  About forty threads came up when I did.
2/19/2013 7:57:11 PM EDT
[#18]
ya i have been searching around just havent seen much about there lower parts and if they are good or not.  Ill keep looking.  just seems like they are the only ones getting stuff back in stock.
2/19/2013 8:04:45 PM EDT
[#19]
I found at least six threads about PSA LPK's.  I don't know what to say.  Everyone is gettting stuff back in stock, it just sells very quickly.  I'm assuming their prices are what is keeping their stuff in stock.  IDK
2/19/2013 9:56:08 PM EDT
[#20]
I have used four or five of the PSA LPK's and I have had no problems with the quality or install. The only issue I had was one was missing a detent. I had an extra on hand so it was no big deal but that was a year or so ago, no problems on four since then.
2/20/2013 4:13:22 AM EDT
[#21]
I have used a PSA kit and an Andersons kit and the PSA kit is better in my opinion.  I would keep your eyes open PSA has had their classic build kit with adjustable stock and trigger in and out of stock the past couple weeks for 129.99
2/20/2013 4:15:03 AM EDT
[#22]
Oh and one of my lowers has a Geissle SSA trigger the other has a standard trigger, while you can def. tell a difference its not a must have if you dont want to spend the extra cash.
2/20/2013 5:50:56 AM EDT
[#23]
well i plan on getting an ACT trigger if i can find one so im not worried about that.   But i might wait a little bit because i dont need the stock or a2 grip that comes with it might be better to buy a lower and stock kit separate.
2/20/2013 8:16:47 AM EDT
[#24]
Well i ordered that PSA kit today.  Now just need to find a trigger.  Im assuming i will need the pins also are the kns anti rotating ones worth buying or should i not waste my money on them?
2/20/2013 11:07:17 AM EDT
[#25]
There is a lot of back and forth on the anti rotating pins. Personally unless you have a full auto lower I don't see the point in them for a semi auto. I've had friends that have had them and honestly I didn't notice a difference between my OEM pins and theirs.

If you think they are a nice feature then I would drop the cash on them. I figure the $2 pins have worked for the US armed service they should do just fine by me.

Cheers

sounds good thats what i wanted to know
What are some good stripped upper quality wise maybe something along the lines a vltor possibly?
i want something of decent quality also need to find a barrel and am not sure what to look for.
2/20/2013 12:36:04 PM EDT
[#27]
In stock...I have no idea about the quality.

Not anymore!

[#29]
i'd grab the anti-rotate pins. it depends on your lower, but the only problem i had with my armalite was that the factory pins fit a little sloppy in the lower, they stayed put just fine but i could feel the take-up in the trigger. the KNS pins got rid of that completely, it's perfect now

I bought a BCM blem upper and it barely had a mark on it and it was much cheaper that way.  If you dont mind a blemish then I would hold out for one of theirs and enjoy the savings. Also their blems come complete all you got to do is assemble it.
2/20/2013 7:53:11 PM EDT
[#31]
i have looked at some bcm just not a fan of the bcm in white on the side of the upper.  would they be considered upper quality i would like to get something of good quality like dd or vltor.
2/20/2013 8:01:57 PM EDT
[#32]
if you go with a blem it wont say BCM on it, it will be unmarked except for the T markings on top. May not be the best out there but seems to be the most economical route to go imo.
2/20/2013 9:16:54 PM EDT
[#33]
ill keep it in mind i would prefer no blemishes.
2/21/2013 1:02:28 AM EDT
[#34]
BCM is good quality and they ship fast.  A had a week off from work a little while ago to complete some projects on my house and I jumped on their site during a snack break.  I was lucky enough that right at that moment their bcg went in stock so I got one.  I had it at my door in 3 days.  I have ordered "in stock" parts from another company that took over a month and a half to receive.  Their bcg's come in stock regularly, but they are usually gone within 10 minutes.

Finding an upper seems like its going to be tough to do.
Someone offered to sell one of those aeros and an AO precision anyone have any input on these? Maybe the quality of them
2/21/2013 9:14:51 AM EDT
[#36]
I have some Aero Precision stuff and it seems nicely done.  I believe they contract for LWRC and Armalite, if that tells you anything.
2/21/2013 2:21:09 PM EDT
[#37]
Save your money on the anti rotation pins.  I have full auto and semi auto lowers without them and one with them.  Haven't noticed a single advantage of having them installed.  Might be a bandaid for out of spec parts....
2/22/2013 12:08:12 PM EDT
[#38]
ok ill probably pass on the anti rotation pins and i might get one of the aero uppers havent seen much else.
2/22/2013 6:45:16 PM EDT
[#39]
Also, make sure if your upper has M4 feedramps to get a barrel that has them as well.
2/22/2013 7:58:41 PM EDT
[#40]
whats the advantage to having them verse not having them
2/22/2013 8:58:17 PM EDT
[#41]
I believe they are supposed to help with feeding issues. Im pretty new to this so im not totally sure, someone else on here probably has more knowledge about it than i do.

Look at above link. M4 feed ramps extend down to the upper. Ideally, your barrel and upper should match. Either m4 feed ramp ( machined on barrel & upper) or standard feed ramps

Of all the PSA stuff I have ordered for people or used myself I had one rifle that had a canted FSB.  They fixed it quickly.  I also got a bad 6.8 bolt from them a while back, they sent me a new bolt no questions asked and would have never noticed if I didn't send the other one back (but I did).

What are some of the low profile gas blocks you guys have had success with?  It looks like all the ones I can find are the set screw type.  With the price of the higher end barrels I'm a little nervous about installing the gas block myself.  Any pointers on getting this right or is it better left to a gunsmith?
2/24/2013 5:40:33 AM EDT
[#45]
I used a Yankee  hill gas block on mine. It is a set screw type.  I installed, marked the screw locations, removed it then dimpled the barrel very slightly where the marks were, then reinstalled and put locktite on the screws, havent had any issues with it yet.

[#46]
well just ordered and ACT trigger from someone that had them in stock now i need to find an upper for a reasonable price which seems to be hard every time i get on they are back out of stock.  Anyone know were i can get one at a reasonable price?
2/26/2013 5:31:28 AM EDT

shipping info received yesterday for my ACT trigger still no luck on an upper though

I just talked to black hole weaponry about lead times on barrels and they said close to 12 weeks.  I think I might go ahead and put in an order since I'm in the same boat with you looking for a nice upper receiver.  The vltor does come in stock at rainier arms about once a week, but they are gone in about 5 minutes.  Guys are getting $300 for them regularly on the EE and even at that price they go quick so I'm going to wait until I get lucky to find one in stock.  I'm wanting to build a nice 18" with mid length gas system.  I've got almost all the parts either here or on the way except the upper and barrel.

Just waiting on my gas block to finish the same setup.

CCA/Seekins Lower
Gieselle SSA-E
Ace Stock
Seekins 3-gun upper
Seekins 15" 3gn rail
WOA 18" ML gas match bbl
Seekins Stainless comp.
BCM BCG

Thinking about stealing my 2.5-16x off my Grendel for it and putting some better glass on the G-machine.

So far my build is as follows
Umbrella Corps lower
Spikes m4 upper-on its way from joe bobs just purchased it today
Lower build kit minus the fcg from PSA still no word on it
ALG ACT trigger from ar15sport should be here tomorrow

Will be ordering a umbrella corp grip, BAD lever, and over sized trigger guard at some point along with a magpul acs-l or str stock.
Not sure on the rail been thinking strongly about either the fortis rail or something similar to it if anyone has any input.  Looking for light and some form of rail the other one i looked at was the Samson Evolution both in 12".

What else will i need to finish this obviously a barrel and gas block and the gas tube along with some sites.

Im not sure what barrels are considered good i will need some help on that end along with the proper gas block.
