I attended a Utah CCW class at a (relatively) close community college here in Southern Illinois. There were 97 students in my section. The instructor said that 100 people attended the AM section of the class. It shocked me to find that number of people in this are willing to spend that much money.

$100 class fee
$65 for the application fee.
$10 for the fingerprints.

About 1/3 of the class picked up either a Florida or Arizona application packet (which the instructor was so graciously selling for $20 ). Some bought both.

The class attendees covered the spectrum. Young, old, male, female.

The class was put on by FSG. Spent almost 1 1/2 hours covering very basic gun handling (ie "the bullet comes out this end"), 1 1/2 hours hitting the high points of Utah law and about 1 hour Q&A.

The instructor (and class members) said some pretty things. I guess it's to be put up with to get the stamp and signature.

I guess my point is, why doesn't the State of Illinois wake up and realize the demand (and thus the $$) is out here for CCW? I also wonder if all those attending the class are active in the Illinois CCW fight?

I had bumper stickers made up that say

" The Illinois Motto: It doesn't have to make sense"

That must the classes at John A Logan, they were covered by WSIL.

What kind of goofy things were said?

That's it

A few:

The "kerchunk" of a shotgun is ideal for home defense.

Birdshot is all you need in above shotgun.

It's safer to carry with an empty chamber.

You should rack the slide of your unchambered handgun on your pants to chamber a round.

All the above were from the instructor.

"You can only carry five shots in a 6 shot revolver. The law requires the hammer to rest on an empty chamber."

"Shoot to wound..."

The above from students.

I thought Arizona was going to do away with the CCW license altogether and make it a right to carry state without the card.

They do have constitutional carry but they retained the CCW for those that want to carry elsewhere.

Also, really crappy to charge for the other applications. They're free. Either offer them for free or tell people where to get them themselves.

All in all,  IL is clueless and illogical.

I need to start teaching classes. I have been looking for additional land to hold them on. For liability reasons I do not want to use the family farm.

Since you don't need range time for Utah CCW classes, look into renting a local hall or hotel conference room. The class I took was at a hotel conference room. If you could find something inexpensive enough, at $100/pop for the class, you could probably make it worth it.

That right there.  Took my UT class in a holiday inn.  Pricepoint should help you fill it.  My class cost about $70..

Could also try teh local VFW hall, or American Legion, local church, etc.

Politics aside, the state doesn't care if you pay $25 for a class, or $250 for a class, as they only get the application fee of say $50.

I would have to go to Utah to take the Instructor class. Not going to happen any time soon. I can teach some of the others with NRA Instructors Certificate.

FSG:  These were the same "clowns" (I'm being very nice) who were charging approximately $350 for a 5-hour combo UT/FL class at Darnall's in Bloomington a couple of years ago.

They were also charging students $20 for each FL application packet.  CoC prevents me from articulating my thoughts on that.

The owner of Darnall's is a TC and noticed that FSG was issuing a little wallet card NRA Certificate of Completion to the students for some "NRA" class that doesn't exist.

She challenged their instructor on this and he stammered then claimed it was a "First Steps" program.

She said, "I'm a First Steps instructor and that is no First Steps class".

To make a long story short, she read him the riot act, banned FSG from their property and called her friends at NRA HQ.

Your AAR of what you saw sounds right up the alley of what I've heard about them.  BAD NEWS.

Wow I have a time getting 20 people in a class. 197? Geez. These cookie cutter trainers drive me nuts. You are not really teaching but making people listen to you talk and then collecting money.
