I'm wondering, I'm a WA resident, and I just got a Utah CFP.  Since the renewal cost is only 10 bucks every 5 years, and it's good in more states than Washington's is, I'm considering not renewing my WA license.  My question is, what would be the downside to this.  Would I be able to use my Utah license to buy firearms in WA?  Any other problems besides having to explain that it's real to a police officer?

Thanks

You don't need a CFP to buy firearms in Wa.

Very true, not needed. But you need one if you want to walk out of a shop with a pistol the same day.

Seems like a bunch of hassle to try and save $6.40 a year ($32 every 5 years.)

Among the reasons I'd not count on a dealer releasing a handgun without a hold on delivery to a purchaser with a Utah Concealed Firearm Permit is that the RCW specifies that the purchaser produce a valid concealed pistol license

Lets not confuse reciprocity with recognition.

Concealed Weapon Reciprocity

Washington concealed pistol licenses will be recognized in the following states, and concealed weapons licenses issued in the listed states will be recognized in Washington State, so long as the handgun is carried in accordance with Washington law.

In addition there are states that recognize a WA CPL

ARIZONA

INDIANA
KENTUCKY
MISSOURI
MONTANA
SOUTH DAKOTA

No permit needed in Alaska and Vermont.

UT has a nice collection of southern states for reciprocity, where WA has a cross country smattering.

NH has a cheap, easy to obtain Non Res CWP that gives 7 states we dont have (AL,AR,CO,FL,GA,PA&WY).

Short form, Xerox of your WA CPL & $20, good for four years.

With a WA CPL, 27 states total. $11 per year total.

Someone needs to get the national reciprocity bill passed. Way too much BS involved in trying to get the states I want.

NH would give me WY, ND, & PA. I need PA and the others would make a drive from OR/WA to there better.

UT would give me WY, ND, & MN, but not PA.

UT would give me WA, but NH would not. Of course WA is so damn easy and good for 5 years plus it gives me OH. I will likely just keep WA current.

WI needs to get their shit straight.

ETA: For the OP, I think it is wise to keep it just because many states reciprocity and recognition laws change so much. Some only recognize resident permits from other states. WA really isn't that bad compared to others. OR for example is only valid for 4 years and the cost is $50 for renewal.

Here is a reciprocity (recognition) by state link that probably isn't as good as packing.org was but it does have links to each state's information pages.

This site has a fairly comprehensive list of CCW permits.

I wish someone would make a site that allowed me to click on my primary state to see what states I get with my CCW, and then click on other states to see what I gain by getting their permit.

Yeah, I wish someone would come up with a service where you just fill out one set of paperwork and get your prints, and they send them off to all the states to give you the best coverage.  The Universal CWP would definitely be nice.  A lot less complicated than all of this.

Yeah, I know I can buy guns without a CWP, I just like skipping the waiting period.
