My wife and I are moving into our first house next week and I'm hoping to get some input on average monthly utilities.  I know they vary with use, house size etc..., but I'm hoping to at least get some input on what to expect for Gas, Water, and Power.  Our house is ~2500 sq/ft in the northwest part of town, has a gas furnace, and no pool.  Any help is appreciated.

I have 500 less sq. footage in Summerlin with a small pool and grass. I paid $140 for gas and power and $30 for water  this month. Gas being a little higher than power. I expect it to go down because I'm done running the heater but it will definitely double in the summer time. Hope that helps.

if you have a "normal" schedule where everyone is out of the house during the day you can get a digital thermostat that will adjust itself during the day when nobody's home, but sets itself back to normal temps before you get home. not having the AC cranked as high in the summer will save a little on the electricity in the summer.

depending on your windows, tinting or solar screens can also help keep it cooler in summer, but you'd lose some of the heating in the winter.

they sell insulation kits for garage doors that help keep the garage from getting so freaking hot. it helps a little. my garage faces SW and would be blistering in the afternoon. after insulating the door, it's just hot. those are about $60 for each car width kit. double wide door needs two kits. these are easy to install, just need to be trimmed to fit the width.

I have the same size house in GV.  The real sting is summer power. I was running about $495 a month with no pool and older AC units. Damn cathedral ceilings. Replaced whole system and is now down to $375 month
I keep my house around 78 degrees in summer. Winter months gas is around $125 a month and power about $140. During summer I usually pay $ 120 anddont get a bill fir a few months.

Ps
have your AC checked by Linn Air for proper service. Been happy with them for years.  Other members here have stated the same.

Congrats on new house.

Thanks for the advice all.

Our garage faces NW, so I'm hoping my cave won't be too bad.  I may try the insulation anyway.

I called NV Energy and they quoted me the high and low for the address as $400 in summer and $95 in winter.  I'm hoping we can come in a bit under the $400 high the previous owners had.

The A/C unit is like 6 years old, so I'm hoping it's fairly efficient.  We'll see though.
