Anyone know some stats about the russin VEPR rifle VS Ar15 like which one is better? (I still love the AR15's but have to prove some peopel wrong) |
Mine made decent groups at 50 yards but was pathetically inaccurate and unpredictable at 200 yards. I experimented with different front handguard holds, taking it off, etc, to no avail. It was also heavy and malfunctioned too often for my liking, so after one 200 yard visit I decided in disgust it had to go. It was a waste to shoot decent .223 ammo through it. If you want a .223 AK look at the lighter models for a better overall package, but don’t expect AR type accuracy, despite what some soda pop can shooting proponents say. The target range proves otherwise. The Vepr is a decent choice in larger calibers like 7.62x39 if the weight does not bother you and in .308 if you don’t care too much about accuracy. |
| My VEPR II in 7.62x39 was a good rifle. I could hold it to 2 inches at 100 yards consistently, better every now and then. With its 20" barrel and RPK receiver it was quite heavy for an AK. I bought because I realy didn't like ARs at the time. I did get to fire one in 5.56 with a 16" barrel and one in .308 with a 20" barrel, both shot OK. But I have my ownpersonal rule "Russian rifle Russian caliber" so I would stick to 7.62x39 or 5.45x39 models. If you're looking for an inexpensive .223 with a gas piston try an Armalite AR180B. They have better sights than an AK and take AR 15 mags and fire control parts. |
