Two years ago we went to Gulf Shores during August and really enjoyed it, nice place great beach. This year my entire family is looking at renting a place on the beach for a week, was looking at Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, and Dauphin Island. My question is where is the best beach  and water for swimming in the area?

We have always liked orange beach.  We normally stay down close to the perdido bay pass at the east end of orange beach at one of the Phoenix condos.

Unless we've been having a drought, Orange Beach and Gulf shores. Dauphin Island gets more of the river and bay outflow, so the water isn't as nice. Also, it isn't a "beach" town per se, so you won't have all of the vacation amenities.

As do we. My wife is making vacation hints. I enjoy the stay but hate to have to get her in a neck hold to drag her back home.

Orange Beach.  Hopefully we have a less rainy summer than last year.

Thanks for the info, we swam down by Orange Beach one day. It was pretty nice there also.

I haven't been to Orange Beach in a while, but if it is still in business and you have a chance try Louisiana Lagniappe (sp?).  I've had some wonderful dishes there in the past.

I also love Lulu's way back up the road at the bridge, personally, but I know it is not everyone's favorite here.

+10 on Louisiana Lagniappe and don't forget Cafe Grazie just below them. We ate at both last weekend.

I prefer Orange Beach.  Any of the Phoenix resorts on the OB end, beach-side are great.  If you like seafood, Lartigue's Seafood Market (on left as you're coming into OB from GS) with the red roof is top-notch.

Make it over to Fisherman's Corner in Perdido Key. It doesn't look like much but the food is off the charts.

Hit up The Gulf at Perdido Pass for a great burger or grouper sandwich, a beer or two, and a relaxing open air environment. Or try Doc's on Canal if you want some fresh fried seafood.

Gulf Shores Steamer just before the bridge in Orange Beach for steamed seafood.  Not to be confused with the Steamer (also good) located in the old Gulf Shores Steamer location in Gulf Shores behind Souvenir City.

The best seafood in Orange beach is a Docs Seafood Shack. its on the backside of Orange beach. Crazy cheap prices for the amount of food you get. get there at 4pm or you will be waiting awhile. its a must eat every trip for us

also we usually rent a house thru Reed rentals out in Fort Morgan. you have to drive a bit to get back to town but its quiet out there and the beach is not at all busy.
