This past weekend I went to Little Gasparilla Island. I have lived in Florida my whole life and never heard of this place. If you are looking to REALLY get away from everything and possibly do some fishing, then this place is for you. You can google it for more info but I'll give you a few details. First off, there is no roads. You have to take the ferry or your own boat to get there. Most of the rentals come with a golf cart to get around the island. There is no stores, restaurants, or anything. That being said you need to bring all your own food/alcohol to last if you don't wanna go back to the mainland. Having your own boat is definitely a plus because the fishing is amazing. Anyway, I thought I'd pass this along to anyone looking for a nice getaway. Also, you can rent houses for around a grand a week.
ETA: Lots of beach to enjoy also. |

Lived here my whole life and never been there. So I packed up the wife and kids and away we went. What a hunk of crap! Completely dominated by by GAS (Geriatric American Society). Everything closes down after the early bird specials run out. Happy hour starts at 2:00 PM and "quiet time" is from 9:00 PM to 9:00 AM. Although the emergency vehicles don't seem to have to observe this rule. Seriously? Beach was mediocre at best with the seaweed everywhere. Will not go back. |
