I'm spending three weeks in Michigan on business, and I feel like I've just jumped the barbed wire fence and made it to the 'real' USA. They've got commercials for gun shops on the radio, billboards with gun shop's sales on them and NRA stickers on about 10% of the vehicles. Mention 'gun' and people don't shudder, they CONVERSE. Good lord, Illinois is sinking farther and farther from what America is supposed to be....and this trip has made it utterly obvious. Larry |

Unlike Michigan, Illinois citizens do not have to register their handguns with the state under the guise of having said weapon "inspected" by the state police authorities. True, gun owners are registered here wholesale, much like the gun owners in old Nazi Germany, but so are handgun owners in Michigan. Saying that Michigan is a bastion of freedom compared to Illinois is like moving from China to Cuba and declaring yourself a free man. Overall, I would say there are probably more pro gunners in Michigan than in Illinois, but in essence it's like jumping from boiling water into the frying pan. |
I completely agree. I believe folding stocks make rifles into pistols in MI. The only redeeming point of MI is that they have CCW. However I hear it's almost cost prohibitive, most CCW guys I know in MI carry an extra million on their home insurance policy just incase. |
As much as I love Illinois(since I have a lot of state pride, admit it, we all do) I've been thinking about at some point moving out of state. Indiana or Wisconsin look tempting. |
Sorry if I come off as rude, but what's your point? Illinois may be a state with shitty politics and shitty gun laws, but it's home to me, even if I ever do move. It's the place of my birth, and I'm damn proud of that. |
The day after I retire, the only thing that will let people know I've even been to illinois, let alone lived here will be my accent. Wyoming here I come |
| HEY GUYS, FIRST HAPPY VETERANS DAY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE USMC. I just thought about this thread title a little more and thought I'd chime in. You need to get out of the Burbs more. (I really don't know where you live, but most ARFcommers live up that way) I hear gun-shop advertisements on the radio a couple times a week. One in Dixon and one in Amboy, to be exact. Lots of vehicles around here have NRA stickers too. Hell, one guy has an NRA spare tire cover for his Jeep. The North-east corner of the state is no way to judge the rest of the state. We're Rednecks west of 39 or South of 80 WIZZO |
I came to that conclusion in 1995. In 1996, I moved to Virginia and do not plan on returning. Hell, I told my wife to not bother taking my body back to IL when I die (all of my family is buried in IL). I fully understand those who, for economic reasons and such, cannot move. Those that have the opportunity, and, for them, firearms are a major hobby, I would strongly suggest they consider a change in location. |
I live in Palos Hills, which is in Cook County but nonetheless outside of Chicago. It's STILL in Illinois. Better? |
I am a native Illinoisan and I was never so glad to move from a state. I'm happily settled in Florida where not only can I freely own my guns, I can carry them as well. Not to mention the fact we have ONE set of laws for transporting guns and the STATE is the regulating authority, plus we don't have a pissant town like Morton Grove. That notwithstanding, Illinois does have its good points like HUGE whitetail deer and decent pheasant hunting. |
If Illinois pheasant hunting is decent, I hate to see it where you're at. I've yet to talk to anyone who hunted pheasant seriously who believes it's anything except very bad, and going downhill quickly. The wildlife management in this state truly sucks. You can't drive down the road without seeing a deer or some geese about to thrash your vehicle into oblivion. Meanwhile, the pheasants are disappearing, you never see a rabbit except in town, and you can't drive past a power pole without seeing a hawk. Deer hunting pays this state good, and they know it. |
Thanks God I'm not the only one suprised by the Pheasant hunting bit. I've been hunting dince 5th grade (I'm a sophomore in college now) and have never seen a pheasant when I've been holding a gun. I nearly run the stupid bastards over every year when I'm working for a seed company, but they're gone come hunting season. WIZZO |
