My girlfriend and I will be visiting Bend next weekend for our winter vacation.  We already have reservations to go snowmobiling one afternoon near Mt. Bachelor.  We would also like to go snowshoeing while we're there.  Do you have any favorite trails to recommend?

We are planning to see the High Desert Museum, but don't have much else on the itinerary.  What are the best places for a nice dinner (romantic, but not too expensive)?  Are there any areas of downtown that we should see and/or avoid?

I would say snowshoeing around black butte also.  There are some nice trails in that area.  you can also hike intot he 3 sisters wilderness area.  I would recomend a damn good map and compass for that trip though.

If you can go up to Eagles Crest Resort,  there is a great place to eat called nibblens greens or something like that.  Small place, but really really good food.

If you are up for a small drive, Smith Rock is a great palce in the winter.  Very pretty and not alot of traffic.  I do believe you can still snowshoe and camp there during the winter.  Just stop at the little climbing shack and pick up a parking pass.

T-

Here is a business directory of Bend

Downtown Bend is all good except the park in the late evening.

If you want to go shooting at an outdoor range with temps below freezing, IM me for contact info and bring some ammo.  ;>)

+1.  We'll be there next week.  Restaurants in Sunriver are WAY over priced.

Drake Park by the river is pretty, but there's usually a lot of goose poop.  The Old Mill District has a nice boardwalk along parts of the river.  There's a nice high end restaurant down in there, between REI and Red Robin (the name escapes me now).  It's nice, but pretty spendy.

Just get there in the three hours a day that they're open

Bend's an OK place, I'm sure you'll find a ton of stuff to do. Hit the cigar bar at McMenamins one night and hang out at the fire pits.. I always manage to meet a ton of cool people when I do that.
