| I'm in Dallas until Friday for work. Any good funshops or places to eat that I have to check out? I'll be working during the day and will only be able to go in the late afternoons and evenings. |

State Fair of Texas is in Dallas, just a minute east of downtown. After 5pm they chop the ticket prices. Variety of discounts depending on what day you go. Some days if you have a Dr Pepper Can, Coke bottle, 3 canned goods or wear Dickies clothes etc, you get a big discount. Great place to walk around. They have a great exhibit in the Hall of State currently on Texas History. Worth checking out.
If you can get there by 4pm, the Commandant's Own Drum and Bugle Corps from Washington DC does a show near the entrance. Top shelf performance. Then they do a retreat ceremony at 5pm in front of the Hall of State too. Last year they used a 105mm howitzer for Retreat, this year it seems to be a volley of M16s. Car show, livestock show, food etc. Corny dogs are a must. USMC is there everyday but Wednesday through the end of this week. USMC Drum & Bugle Corps at State Fair of Texas |

My hotel is on Stemmons Fwy right next to Medieval Times. I do have a rental and I like pretty much anything. I typically try to avoid the national chains when traveling since you can go to them pretty much anywhere. You should visit the Meddlesome Moth. You could walk there from your hotel http://www.mothinthe.net/directions Owned by the same guy(Shannon Wynne) that owns the Flying Saucer chain. Awesome food and many beers that are impossible to find anywhere else. The interior has much of the stained glass from the Hard Rock Cafe. |
| Jakes in Uptown is one of the best Hamburgers IMO! There is also Cane Rosso in Deep Ellum that just go voted Best Pizza in Dallas by the Observer. They have a Smores Calzone that was flippin delicious. Kona at Northpark Mall has a great happy hour from 3 to 7 and from 9 to close! They have decent food and sushi, but its outdoors so it gets crowded! |

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll have to check them out.
I was here a few months back with guys from work and we went to the Meddlesome Moth, it was really good. One of the guys that went is really into beer and I thought we would have to drag him away from there kicking and screaming. |

Baboush Mediterranean "tapas" - trust me, you won't be disappointed, and definitely not a chain
Zaguán Latin Café & Bakery in Uptown - specializes in Latin American food and is close to DFW Gun Range near Love Field Kuby's Sausage House (German food) in Snider Plaza (also near Jackson Armory, one of Dallas' better gun stores) - definitely not a chain for authentic Chinese food, head north up US 75/Central Expressway to Richardson, take the exit for Arapaho Rd, but immediately veer into the right lane and turn east on Jackson Street (just past Boardwalk VW) and follow the street straight across Greenville Avenue to the plaza - one of my favorites there is Yung Kee Chinese BBQ at 400 N Greenville Ave, Ste 1H, Richardson, TX |

Pizza, steak, seafood, BBQ, TexMex, burger? BTW, Kuby's is the best German place in town, just not fancy. |
