Hey All, I'm visiting Dallas for the fist time for a conference at the Hilton Anatole from Dec 8 - 11. I'll mostly be busy during the day, but I might be able to slip away for a while. Any fun things to do in the area? |

Any fun things to do in the area? Double check your vehicle to make sure absolutely nothing of value is in the car while it is left unattended in their parking lot. That hotel is one under DoD contract, a lot all of my acquaintances in the DoD have had their vans and rental cars broken into. Security is very good at letting you know, after the fact. mm |

I'm flying in and taking the shuttle to the airport. If I can't walk to something then I have to take a cab. Thanks for the heads up though. Well, when I travel I like to experience something of the area that I can't get back home. I always like a good steak. Quoted:
what do you like to do? what do you like to eat? Go to " The Palm" in the West End. GREAT ( veal chop) food and there are some interesting shops in the immediate area. About a 5-10 minute cab ride from the Anatole. You are very close to "Rays Hardware and Sporting Goods" on Singleton. Again about a 5-10 minute cab ride. It`s where Dubya buys his stuff. One of my favorite fun shops. Razor wire on top and in a BAD part of town. Worth the trip. Another dining option is "Trulucks" on McKinney Ave ,,,fine looking women with the best crab claws (steaks too) in town. Been there many times and will go many times again. |

The Meddlesome Moth is within walking distance, pretty much
http://www.mothinthe.net/ Dealey Plaza is always open 24/7, so is the grassy knoll. Sunday the 9th is the White Rock Marathon and some streets through downtown will be blocked in the morning through about 2pm. Kwanzaafest is Sunday at Fair Park, you need to stay out of that entire zip code that day. Stay. Away. The weather will be great through the weekend, if you have a car, you can walk around in Deep Ellum some and/or visit the museums in the Arts District. Not sure what would be more interesting. |

+1 for the dealers plaza/sixth floor museum.
I'd never been there as I grew up in Dallas and my Mom was at the Trade Mart that day at a luncheon for the President who obviously didn't make it. I had just come home with my grandma after half day kindergarten and lunch at kips nwhwy@hillcrest. Seems almost like yesterday if I close my eyes! |
| The sixth floor museum would be great choice. I've never been to the Perot museum but have heard good things about it. There are a lot of nice gun shops around town, but Dallas is big and without a rental car it makes getting to some a bit of work. If I could just recommend one stop, it would be Jackson Armory. The place is like a museum itself. They have everything from higher end AR's to milsurps including Garands, M1s, 03 Springfields, to really nice shotguns. |

That does sound interesting to visit. I'm glad you all mentioned it because I would have forgotten about the assassination. Quoted: +1 for the dealers plaza/sixth floor museum. The Moth was really very good food and I've never been to a bar with over 40 beers on draft. I had the lamb sticks, moth balls, and fried chicken skin with a pilsner. Thank you for the rec. Now I need a good steak house. The Hilton Anatole has SER (pronounced sear) but I thought there might be something within a 10 min cab ride. Any suggestinos. Glad you liked the moth, that place is truly one of a kind.
My personal favorite steaks in DFW are in Addison @ http://www.kobesteaks.net/. Might be a bit further than you want to go, but it will not disappoint. |
| Addison also has: http://www.fogodechao.com/index.php?id=122 My personal favorite. Though not a steak place per-se there is no shortage of meat and their salad bar is also top notch. |

Bob's Steak and Chop House is close to the Anatole.
http://www.bobs-steakandchop.com/dallas.html I don't eat there much but when I do it seems as though I always see famous people there. |

We liked Texas Land and Cattle. While not th beat steak (bone in robe eye) I've ever had it was over the threshold for damn good.
I drank a bottle of blended red from Lubbock which was also damn good. Quoted:
My group of friends didn't really want to to the $50 steak thing so we're heading to Texas Land and Cattle which is close by. Thanks for the tips. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Texas Land and Cattle is a chain, it's mediocre. I dislike chain steakhouses. Unless someone else is paying! If you wanted to go inexpensive and awesome, ya'll should have eaten Mexican instead. Killer places around there. |
