I will be in Georgia next month and I have a few questions....

Are there any good gun shops/ranges/etc in the Tybee Island/Savannah area?

Also, I have an Ohio CHL, which Ga does not honor.  However, from what I've read on Packing.org and in the thread about knife carry, it looks like I can keep my pistol loaded in the glove box, provided I don't go to a national or state park.  Where I would have to unload it, separate it from the ammo, and secure it.  Is this correct?

This is my understanding also.  Without a GFL, you may have a loaded pistol in your glove-box, console or in plain sight.  It will need to be unloaded and stored separate from its ammo if you enter a National or State Park.

Someone else will be along shortly to tell you about the gun shops.

Welcome to GA.

Thanks for the info guys.  We are having a good time.  The weather could be a bit more cooperative, but we can't really complain.  We will definitely seek out some good food.  We went to Barbara Jean's yesterday, and that was pretty darn good.  I found a gun shop over on Wilmington Island I'm going to check out.  So far, no ranges, though.

Any recommendations on places to visit, eat, or whatever, would be most appreciated.
Wilmington Island is a good shop, small but good. Dean Forest Pawn and Gun has a large selection of guns and accessories plus some surplus stuff. The Gun Shop on Mall BLVD, is OK but kind of expensive. A lot of the Pawn Shops around have guns and sometimes even have decent prices on one of them. If you want to shoot, there is a DNR range outside of Richmond Hill if you can find it. It would be about 15 miles out of Savannah. I have only been there once or twice. Or you could IM me and if we can work out a time, you are welcome to shoot at my house. I am also about 15 miles out of Savannah.

Eighth Air Force museum is off I95 somewhere around exit 102, you might enjoy. Have fun.

The DNR range is where I shoot mostly, and it is the only place that I know of.  There is an indoor range just outside of town in SC, but I have never shot there.

If you get in a bind, drop me an IM as I live on the southside of Savannah.  Welcome to town.

Where in SAV are you staying?

Thanks again.  Unfortunately, I haven't been able to check in since Tuesday.  We went into Savannah, and ate at Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House, mighty fine cookin'.  Best greens and dumplin's next to my grandma's.   Also did a river boat tour.  It's been a fun, but short week.

Well, we are heading up to Atlanta tomorrow to visit my wife's brother, then back to Ohio.  As a former southerner (Tennessee), every time I come down south, it gets harder to go back.

Tybee Island, a hundred yards or two from the beach.

Why go back?  We can make room for you here.

Just think, no snow.  OK, once every few years, but that is it.

Mrs. Wilkes is great. Old Mrs. Wilkes isn't there anymore, but its still great family style food.  If you get this in time, get to the North Beach Grill on Tybee. You'll have to ask someone how to get there, but if "turn toward the beach at CHUs" makes any sense to you then you'll find it.
