Greetings from southwest Virginia! I have just been notified that I'm heading to Marengo, IL for 2 weeks starting Monday, 5/16. Any hints on what to do, where to go? I'll be there over the weekend. Thanks, FatMan |
| I live in Rockford, place is dull as hell and sucks the ass of Chicago. Next door in Loves Park, IL is Bullet Stop Gun Shop, where you can do some shooting and rent a used gun if you left yours at home. The fee for non-members is $25/hr. Only a 50 foot range. If you're looking for a beer and some decent pizza and a cool place to hang, Old Chicago in Rockford on State St. is pretty decent. On Fridays and Saturdays it's about the most night life you might find in that neck of the woods. Like someone else said, the place is boring as hell. I don't miss it. |

| I have never been to VA. I bet your neck o da woods in VA has more outdoors opportunities than here. I am not a big fan of urban life, so nightlife and city stuff means little to me. I'd rather have some place to go outside to play with my weaponry and not have the cops called because some leftist commie got scared by the noise or whatever. Rockford is not all bad, I have just lived here too long, so it's stale to me to put it lightly. How is the job market in your area? |
Last time I was in Chicago was on leave from NTC Great Lakes in 1980.  I'm thinking about hitting it this weekend. ETA: I grew up about 30 minutes from NYC...Now there's a town! |
Look in the Viriginias Hometown forum. You'll see a thread from a shoot we did at Hite Hollow. Lots of full-auto goodness. VA is a good Class III state. Open carry with no permit. Concealed carry "shall issue". I live in the middle of the Blue Ridge mountains. Lots of outdoor stuff. Lake nearby, hunting, fishing, hiking. There's a free shooting range on National Forest property about 20 minutes away. I won't live anywhere else. Job market is expanding in some areas and stale in others. What kind of a job are you looking for? |
I could do a job in retail management, since retail is usually a cake walk and I have been doing it for many years, not as management, but I got my Degree so I can be marketable. Since my degree is in Politicial Science, perhaps a good local gunloving politician needs some help. |
I actually just got back from vacation including a trip to the Hun Farm. I'm back at work this Monday night. I'm all up for meeting up for a drink. Feel like driving a bit? --- cuz I sure as hell ain't driving to Rockford!! |
